I think his suicide attempt is more a result of his own life, leaving people behind, plus whatever happens on the island before he leaves.

Popular theory is that he is probably upset over the coffin individual because that may have been his best chance at going back.

Think about it, you never see Kate and Claire in the same scene with someone else talking to both of them alternately...

I've heard some wacky Lost theories, but that one is the best the internets have come up with.

 I stand corrected.

I don't understand why people think Ben sent Michael to/towards the freighter... Ben does seem to have a spy on board but the freighter is trying to hunt him down. Why send Michael to them with essentially directions to the island? :hscratch:

Also aside from Locke saying to Ben in the beginning that those were the last two eggs, why was this episode called "Eggtown"? (It may have been posted earlier but I don't care about it enough to read through 8 pages of whackiness and wild aimless posturings.)

People are probably just assuming that Michael's return, together with the fact he's worked for Ben in the past, makes him an excellent candidate to be the spy. He's just as likely, if not more likely, than anyone else.

Michael Corvin 02-28-08 09:12 AM

Quick random thought. What if the people Sayid is hunting down and killing for Ben are people that managed to get off the island? Suppose Michael is one of them on the list.

I like to think Michael actually made it off island and isn't just another of Ben's pawns.

I really don't think this fits what was revealed in the episode at all.

Michael Corvin 02-28-08 09:29 AM

How so? Nothing was really revealed on his target just that he is a hitman for Ben at this point.

Except that his target is "old-fashioned" (requiring the assistant to wear a pager) and an extremely wealthy "economist" (perhaps a career parlayed out of the Oceanic settlement money?). Certainly a possibility.

Has everything about the Hanso Foundation and the Dharma Initiative totally fallen off the map? (Like why the survivors are still receiving food drops?)

Well, there is the magically teleported Polar Bear in the desert, ala the rabbit in the training video. So Hanso/Dharma is is still there but definitely playing a small role at this point.

And that he's "protecting his friends" against "them". That's why I think that :D

Ben doesn't seem to have a spy on board, he flat out said he does. And if you believe him then I doubt that spy would give them directions without a plan to sabotage them later, ie let Ben know exactly what is going on and then strand them here.

Ben knows about the freighter people, he knows ALL about them, and this is how he keeps tabs on them. I mean the spy could be Richard(if Cane released him yet) but he has been on the island the whole time(I guess) and I tend to think the spy is someone we know. Another facet of Mike's deal could have been, I let you and your boy off the island and you spy on these people for me, THEN you can go. Or you spy on these people, I give you 3.2 million and you go get a nice loft in NY or wherever after your work is done.

The spy could be Walt too, that would be fun...

I personally think its posible that Michael might have run into the freight purely by accident (assuming Michael on the freightor). Not neccessarily being sent there intentionally.

Furthermore, it is also possible that Michael is not intentionally spying on the freightor. Perhaps, Walt is accidently acting as a conduit of sorts that Ben is able to tap into.

I missed this episode last week, so I'm watching it now. Something I think I noticed, hopefully somebody can get a screengrab. Near the beginning when they're drinking coffee from the Dharma mugs on the porch, you can see the bottom of Kate's mug. I may be wrong, but I swear I saw a Mainstays logo on the bottom. Which would mean the mugs came from Wal-mart.

dx23 02-28-08 07:39 PM

Wal-Mart is trying to take over the world, so is not to far fetched that they are behind the Dharma Initiative or at least part of it.

It does say Mainstays and also Made in China!. I'm guessing this is a slip up by production. They might digitally paint it out for the dvd's. Dharma should just be Dharma.

sdcrym 02-28-08 10:40 PM

Thanks for the confirmation. The joys of high definition, I guess. I wonder if any of the lost fanatics have noticed it.

Well, they probably weren't made on the island, and I doubt if Dharma has a mug manufacturing business, so they probably did buy some generic mugs at Walmart and put their name on them. :p

It could be double secret subliminal advertising.

Seeing as you noticed and identified a Wal-mart brandname, don't you now qualify as one yourself?-poke-;)

ZING! In my defense, I was able to wait an entire week (less one hour) to see the episode I missed. I did find that lostpedia site via google, and they already had it, although they listed it as general trivia rather than blooper.
