Anyone else think for a second in the last scene with all the animal cages that they were going to show Vincent as one of the Oceanic 6

Heat 02-15-08 12:10 AM

Has the actor who plays Sayid gained some weight or is just my imagination? His face is looking chubby to me for some reason.

As far as the show went, I liked it though I'm still not convinced that the "rescuers" are really there to kill them.

Not just that, I expected we'd see Vincent in the cage, then Michael would walk in and reveal himself as the economist. Sayid would pull his gun and then it'd cut to the helicopter landing on the freighter, with Michael waiting on deck.

This is another episode that just adds more and more questions. I really, really would like to know how people are going to remember all of these little mysteries and be willing to stick around to see the answers.

Didn't really notice Sayid. But I noticed that Jack has lost weight and Hurley has gained weight.

I don't really see John Locke being the Economist. If anything I would think Locke and Ben would end up on the same side.

The Economist could be the black dude who ordered Naomi and crew to the island.

redrum 02-15-08 01:30 AM

well we know jack, kate, hurley, and sayid left the island. 2 more people. i would guess sun and jin. so that would leave the question as to what happened to michael and walt.

My question if that was the six would be what happened to Claire. Sawyer has apparently decided to stay on the island. Locke would never leave alive, and nobody else is a big enough cast member to be a part of the six (I doubt it would be Cindy, the flight attendant).

Of course, I have so many questions by now that I ought to have written all down in a notepad.

By notepad, I assume you mean clue notebook.

I've been hoping for a completely dialog free Vincent-centric episode.

cracksky 02-15-08 03:11 AM

My first thought when the payload didn't arrive and there was a 31 minute discrepancy was that the rocket was stuck in time trying to find the island. Much like when Desmond tried to leave and ended up right back on the beach. Remember when Ben gave Michael specific directions as to how to get off the island like there's only ONE way out. Just like in this episode. I still think they might have trouble finding the freighter.

As far as the Sayid story, I'm pretty sure the beginning was a flashback within the flashforward so the Econimist/Employer was the guy on the golf course who obviously was connected in some way to the Oceanic cover-up from the reaction on his face.

I wonder if Sayid ever looked up his old girlfriend, Nadia, who was last seen living in L.A. and whom he thought was dead.

Another thought after re-watching last week's episode in pop-up form: why was the pilot replaced on 815? Were any other employees replaced on 815? Why wouldn't they want him on that flight? Because they knew it was going down? Also, the photo that Miles passed could've been a young Eko. I'll have to compare the flashback episode with him and Yemi as kids. Not sure how long this flashback occurred to match up with either of them being kids but the money was the new kind with the new backs so it can't be too long ago.

What the fuck did I just watch?

How does this show continue to scatter my brain all over the carpet?

Deadman31 02-15-08 06:12 AM

When Sayid found Ben's passports, could anyone make out the names on them?

Orbi-Wan Techno 02-15-08 06:16 AM

My wife, who stopped watching Lost about 1/2 through last season, saw last night's episode and was sucked back in.... That was great!

Jimmy James 02-15-08 06:23 AM

The time versus elapsed time issue is a key one if you ask me.

If it was time, the issue appears to be that the payload was floating around until it just happened to find the right bearing. This is because if it were just an issue of there being some sort of field around the island that makes time distorted, the clock that was brought on the helicopter and the clock on the payload should both be off by the same amount (unless perhaps the distortion of time is unstable, so there is no guarantee whether it will be a 1 minute or 100 year change each time you cross). Either way, you get into Bermuda triangle territory here.

If it's a stopwatch instead of a clock, they did a bad job of showing it because we didn't see any effort to start the stopwatches at the same time. Only the stopwatch theory would reflect time actually moving more slowly instead of it being more of a time distortion/bearing type of issue.

ETA: On a different note, I wonder if the death of whoever Jack is concerned with is the work of Sayid. Could Jack be talking about going back to the island to escape the wrath of Sayid?

If I made it out correctly, there one was for London which read "Dean Moriarty."

Dean Moriarty - one of the main characters from Jack Kerouac's "On the Road."

Anyone find it odd that Sayid seemed to be the most well adjusted of the Oceanic 6?
This could change as we find out who the other two are, but he wasn't drunk, crazy or scared.

Anyone else get a Doc-Brown-Back-to-the-Future flashback when they saw this? :)

When they started panning through the animal cages I actually shouted "Vincent is behind it all!"

Ben's hidden room was interesting. Had he been leaving the island via the submarine that Locke blew up?

Rob V 02-15-08 07:27 AM

Not a chance. Eko and Yemi grew up in war-torn Nigeria.
It did appear that the kid in the picture was a drug dealer though (based on the drugs and money Miles found in the duct). I don't think that scene had anything to do with anybody on the island. I agree with the poster who said it was more of a reference for the frames changing -- thus supporting alternate timelines. It also kind of fleshed out Miles character as a ghostbuster.

Also the fact that the rocket took so long to reach the island supports why Ben and his buddy (forgot his name) haven't aged much in a long, long time.

Mopower 02-15-08 07:28 AM

I think the economist is
Spoiler:
the black man that hired the boat crew and talked to Hurley at the nut hut. The man is also future Walt.
Completely serious.

I wouldn't call going around killing people for Ben well adjusted. Kate is the only one so far that doesn't seem to have any personal problems with being off the island.

treszoks 02-15-08 07:44 AM

I think that if they meant for it to be time, Dan would have just looked at his watch. The fact that they used a stopwatch as the prop makes me think it was elapsed-time.

cracksky 02-15-08 07:55 AM

I can only think of one reason why Sayid would be killing people for Ben. Ben must've gotten to Nadia first and kidnapped her. Thus, Sayid is doing whatever needs to be done to get her back.
