It just occurred to me that we have expanded the possibilities to include movie detectives (Fargo, etc.). Therefore, I now want Harry Callahan to look into the matter pronto! He needs to take his .357 Magnum and his soon-to-be-deceased partner along with him.

Not tv, but maybe Decker from Blade Runner?

You might get Buck Rogers to solve the crime if it were the 25th century. Don't know if he qualifies as a detective, but then, who does that far in the future?

Your idea just made me think of a fantasy detective in a modern-day setting that I don't think has been mentioned...Angel. Assuming that the murder was done by some paranormal or supernatural agent or means, of course.
