Of course a couple generations hew him as Sam the butcher on The Brady Bunch, but I always remembered him as the frequent guest (and occasional old army buddy of Rob) on The Dick Van Dyke Show.

He also had a regular role on All In the Family/Archie Bunker's Place, was a regular on the Phil Silvers Show, and was the voice of Magilla Gorilla, among many, many other credits.

I loved him best on the Andy Griffith show where he played 8 different characters and it's spinoffs:
