Writer's Strike: Dead Shows You'd Bring Back?

If the writer's strike is gonna be a long one, what long-cancelled show would you like to see the networks dust off and re-air to fill the void.

For me, it would be Lucky. I just re-watched the first two episodes last night and I remembered just how much I missed this show.

Arrested Development. And it becomes enough of a ratings hit, that they are forced into re booting the show.

Mission: Impossible. Why not a third go around? I've been watching the repeats on ALN this fall.

I would love to see Fox's short lived Justice get another chance.

Giving Arrested Development another chance would be awesome. I think there is enough hype about it from its fans that many who haven't seen it would watch if it was given the right timeslot. I wouldn't keep my hopes up about it though.

The Loop, another short lived Fox show could catch an audience as well.

Come to think of it, if Fox ever cancelled it, it should be re-run. Chances are it was probably good since Fox pulls the good shows to make room for hours and hours of shit.

Another profitable idea, for all networks, is to re-air the first seasons of some of their shows (running or cancelled). Stick to the successful ones that can gather a bigger audience. 24, Buffy, Lost, Friday Night Lights, Scrubs, 30 Rock and How I Met Your Mother all come to mind. This would allow all the people that missed out on the first season, either becasue they just missed out or because they haven't discovered the show, to watch it from the beginning. Then watch them flock out and buy the DVDs for the remaining seasons.

I'm a pawn enough to know this would work on me. I missed the first season of 24 because I knew I wouldn't be able to keep up with it at the time. I didn't watch any season since. A few months ago I sacked up and bought season one on sale, I loved it and bought every other season. I have similar stories with How I Met Your Mother, Scrubs and Lost.

Even though Victor Garber was good on Justice, the show turned out to be a pretty standard and repetitive procedural.

I just want a studio to stop green lighting procedural dramas about Lawyers. There's way too many and not many are even that good.

Garber will be back in the new year on ABC on guess what? Another Lawyer show...Eli Stone.

But staying back on topic, I would have to say Journeyman.

Max Headroom - Maybe out of date now, but I loved this show! I can't believe it was cancelled so quickly.

Line of Fire - FBI drama from a few years ago that lasted less than a season. I liked it a lot.

The Agency - CIA drama - this one lasted a couple of seasons--it had a solid cast and good production values. I wish it had lasted longer.

Commander in Chief.

Fantastic show that got killed by it's behind the scenes problems. If Rod Lurie wasn't such a shitty showrunner, then maybe the show would have made it.

Jack & Bobby

Deadline

It was done by Dick Wolf and it starred Oliver Platt, Hope Davis, Bebe Neuwirth & Lili Taylor.

Millennium and obviously Arrested Development!

Freaks and Geeks.

I'll throw out the X-files. Have the new movie jump start the series again.

Now that Christopher Titus' new show was a bust how about Titus?

Lastly, Andy Ricter Controls the Universe.

Oddly enough, these are all Fox shows.

The way the original post was worded, it's shows you'd like to see re-air rather than be revived.

Tscott 12-16-07 08:35 AM

ABC should do a Karen Sisco, Eyes double feature crime night.

Red Dog 12-16-07 08:56 AM

Son of the Beach, Philly, Eyes and The Agency.

Jason 12-16-07 09:44 AM

Wow, what happened to the Firefly crowd? Anyone?

My vote would be for the goofy, live action version of The Tick. I was watching these again on Joost, and they were quirky fun. Would be right at home on adult swim (and would be about 1,000 times better than the Eric and Whatever Awesome Show).

chris_sc77 12-16-07 11:26 AM

I wouldn't like to see it but i think Fox should re-air Dark Angel. It would probably do well for them.

I'd love to see Firefly re-air on network TV in the proper order, capping it off with the network premiere of Serenity.

Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared could probably both benefit from a second go round, since Judd Apatow is such a hot property right now. The network could air ads that said "From the man who brought you 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and Superbad!"

I'd like Day Break to air again, mostly because I really enjoyed it but never got around to watching the final episodes online.

Another thing networks could do is grab some British shows to fill in time slots. Why worry about an American remake of Life on Mars that can't get made due to the strike, when you could just air the original series?

Mysteryfan 12-16-07 11:44 AM

Drive
Daybreak
Burn Notice
Kidnapped

and another vote for Karen Sisco and Eyes.

I thought the show was only good when Rod Lurie was the showrunner. ABC made a huge mistake in replacing him. I guess he wasn't good about deadlines, but they should have just put an exec producer on the show to help him with that, but let Lurie keep creative control.

I think ABC killed that show.

I think ABC killed that show.

Creatively it was really good with Lurie. Once Steven Bochco came aboard, he killed the show. Even though they tried cleaning up Bochco's mess with Dee Johnson, who worked closely with Lurie, it was too little too late.

But, yes ABC did kill that show with their production shuffling.

I think I've only been really upset with a few shows being canceledds so I'd go with:

Related
Karen Sisco
Six Degrees
Smith

Some canceled during the first season when I was really getting into them and Related that ended on a cliff hanger.
