Denise, Denise tsk tsk, why would you lie about that? Burnett should take away the $50k he gave her, although he probably has no legal power as the gift was not conditional on anything.

And now I'm wondering how the hell is Amanda & James staying employed being away from their jobs for almost 80 days (if they are indeed doing the next installment) in about 6 months without giving away where the hell they are going.
I don't think you have to keep it a secret WHERE you are going, just what order people get voted off.

Interview with Todd Herzog:
AE: Will you go back to being a flight attendant now or are you hoping to break into show biz? What's next for you?

TH: I actually quit my job to do the show because they wouldn't let me take a leave. I honestly don't know what to do now. I don't know. We'll see.

Denise's pity party was annoying as was her FTC jury questioning where she didn't ask them anything and just used the time to vent about being kicked out of the game and how she woulda won if they didn't vote her out...it's funny to see these people accuse others of being liars but when they do it than its 'just a part of the game'

Burnett should pull the $50,000 offer and she should be fired from her "Promotion."
The story broke and was making the rounds yesterday before Courtney did her interview with RNO (btw, it's a funny interview for Courtney fans, and for non fans she fully admits it would have been horrible for the show if she had won...she gets it). Anyway, she said that Denise talked about her job promotion to janitor while they were at camp.

You cannot say a word where you are going. Survivor makes you sign a confidentiality agreement where you cannot mention where you are going otherwise they will sue you for $2M. The Amazing Race also does the same thing.

Where as in the specific location, but they are allowed to say where as in, "I taking off to go on Survivor." Right?

Even if you can't say what show you can say that you're taking off to be on a popular reality show. Right?

No they're not even allowed to tell anyone (except I think one close family member) where they're going. They usually just say they need a long break for personal reasons or that they're going on a trip somewhere to do some charity work, etc.

Even if they had to quit/be fired, I would think after it was over, they'd be welcomed back, if just for the local PR boost.

The funny part here is not only do you judge the entire east coast population but that you use your judgement to support your stance that we shouldn't judge Courtney.

Oh, and uh, snark snark.
Defensive much?

It was merely a generalization and it's a pretty common one. And it wasn't an insult, because I defend Courtney and have throughout this thread. Maybe you hadn't noticed.

You really think a broad generalization of NYC and the East as being people with a much more in your face attitude is far off? It's no different than when people say "folks" in the midwest are nicer or people in the south are very hospitable or that people in on the west coast are more mellow but very kind of vain.

None of those is meant to judge any particular person or every single person, but those a fairly common generalizations of different parts of the country.

Snarky is simply a high energy, in your face kind of attitude. And if you aren't used to it, you can feel like it's a constant attack. Not bad, merely different. As I mentioned, I have family there and they just behave differently and say thing more openly. I've heard them refer to it as a NY attitude themselves. When they come here, they often say it's relaxing but boring. So, are they insulting 600,000 by calling them boring? No, it's a different way of life.

Courtney had that in your face, smart-ass attitude and it rubbed people the wrong way. All I'm saying about her, is that it's my belief she was well aware of her own attitude, comfortable with it, and that I don't think she was someone who played the game mean or wanted to hurt people. She just had that east coast, hip, unfiltered attitude that IS very common if you take a vacation to the city and go to the bars and meet the kind of people Courtney probably hangs around with. They just say what they think, often without caring how it might sound when it leaves their mouths.

It's not like I personally attacked some individual from the Bronx as a horrible person simply from watching a tv show.

On the CBS "Early Show" today, Denise Martin faced her boss, Douglas Schools Superintendent Nancy T. Lane.

By Andrew Ryan, Globe Staff

Denise Martin, the former lunch lady who claimed she had been demoted to janitor after appearing on “Survivor: China,” acknowledged today that the hard-luck story she told in the reality show finale was not true.

Martin, who works in an elementary school in Douglas, Mass., appeared on the CBS "Early Show'' in a split screen with Schools Superintendent Nancy T. Lane in a segment dubbed "Survivor Scandal." As her voice cracked, Martin confirmed what Lane told the Globe on Monday -- that she had been promoted to a janitorial position before trying out for the show, a job that came with a $10-an-hour pay raise.

"It was not my intention to be misleading," Martin said from studio in Los Angeles. "Nancy has been outstanding to me. She has done everything possible. She has given me the leave of absences to be on the show."

"I'm sorry," Martin continued, sounding as though she was near tears. "And I apologize to everybody. Believe me, I wish none of this had happened. I couldn't say I’m sorry enough."

During the live broadcast of the show's finale Sunday, Martin told viewers she had been demoted from her $7-an-hour job as a lunch lady because she had become too popular at Douglas Intermediate Elementary School.

"They didn't give me my job back," said Martin, 40, who finished fourth in the reality show and missed the $1 million grand prize. "I'm a janitor now. I clean toilets. I wash the floors in the bathroom. I vacuum the kids' rugs."

The producer of "Survivor" responded on live television by surprising Martin with $50,000 to help "get her life back." The story sparked an avalanche of e-mails to Lane and the Douglas public schools, as thousands of viewers blasted the superintendent for being a "Scrooge" and ruining the country. The superintendent said today she was glad Martin acknowledged the truth.

"What I really want to do is make sure the community has a chance to realize that Denise is sorry," said Lane, who appeared from a television studio in New York City. "It really cast a negative light on the whole experience for the entire community. I feel badly for them."

Then the segment's moderator, Julie Chen, asked another question. "Denise, what about the $50,000 you got for what appeared to be a sob story?"

Martin stammered, but didn’t answer. "It was not in my intention," Martin said. "I had no idea I was going to be awarded that."

With eight seconds left in the segment, Chen pushed harder, asking whether she was going to keep the money. Martin shook her head from side to side but never said yes or no.

"I love my town," Martin said. "I love my community. Nancy does a great job."

`Survivor' Lunch Lady Won't Take $50,000

NEW YORK (AP) — Denise Martin, who gained fame as the lunch lady on CBS' reality show "Survivor: China," is donating the $50,000 she received from producer Mark Burnett to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDs Foundation.

Martin told viewers on Sunday night's live finale that she'd been demoted to janitor at a school in Douglas, Mass., after finishing fourth on the show. After hearing her story, Burnett surprised Martin with the money to help get her life back.

On Tuesday, Martin acknowledged on CBS' "The Early Show" that she'd been promoted to custodian, at her own request, before the competition began.

"It was not my intention to be misleading," Martin, 40, said on the broadcast. "I'm sorry, and I apologize to everybody."

In a statement issued Tuesday by the network, Martin said she took "full responsibility" for her actions.

"I do not feel comfortable about accepting the $50,000. I would instead ask that it be donated to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation," the statement said. "Please accept my apology. I would also like to thank all the people who have supported me through this experience. "

Way to prove Courtney right, Denise.

Were the final three excluded from winning the 100k "Fan Favorite" prize? I don't understand how Denise got more votes than Amanda.

Classy move. For once I agree with what she's doing.

Ditto. So foolish to lie on national TV when confirmation is so easy to come by.

it's great she's donating the money. but let's not go overboard and start calling her classy. She played the pity-party card on the show, then again at the reunion. that's not classy. She lied on the reunion, plain and simple. That's not classy. really, what was she going to do? keep the money and look even worse? Rejecting the cash or donating it was the only option.

You're right, but she still could have kept it if she really wanted to.

She's classy because she's donating $50,000 of Mark Burnett's money to charity?

She does suck at life.
