See, thats the kind of atypical casting that gives me some hope. While Cribbins is going to offer a certain kind of cliche, the old but scrappy wisecracker, at least its not a cliche they've already lobbed at us time after time.

I take this as something happens to Donna and her mother and The Doctor and gramps have to go rescue them.
Nice way to bring Donna back in...

^ Exactly - why can't Davies leave well enough alone? He screwed with the Rose arc, and now he's going to do the same for Donna?! Probably have 10 die to save Donna's memory.

Wait, I thought Davies was leaving as executive producer (maybe it was writing he was leaving)...but, I just re-read that article and sure enough his names attached.

Damn him!!! Damn him to hell!!!!!!!!

I really hope they touch on the Donna thing before Tennant goes.

Why? It's a done deal.

Davies is gone once Tennant is gone. S5 will see a complete change in executive producer (Stephen Mofatt) and Time Lord.

For some reason I had thought that change was happening on this next current batch. Wishful thinking I suppose...

Don't look if you don't want to be spoiled (tho it's nothing we haven't been talking about in the past couple of posts).

Any news on when the previous post-season4 episode (I think it was around Christmas 2008) will air in the U.S.? Or be available here on dvd? I still haven't seen this one, and everyone is already talking about the next one!

Re: Doctor Who Series 4 (BBC) General Discussion [includes spoilers]

SciFi has usually held the special and aired it just before the next season, but since this season is a series of specials I'm guessing that they'll wait until all the specials are out before airing them. This could mean that it'll be well into 2010 before you see them.

There's 5 specials, the first 2 are Christmas 2008 and Easter 2009, but the next one is not until Christmas 2009. So that's means there will be 2 more in 2010 before the specials are complete. Now they could decide to release them quicker like they originally planned, but who knows? They may even cut them down from being 5 specials total.

So, unless SciFi licenses the specials individually instead of in a group like a season, I wouldn't expect to see them anytime soon. Better to just view them by "other internet means".

^ I believe Davies said #3 would be "Novemberish". It wouldn't be surprised if #4 were the 2009 Christmas special, and then #5 was at some point in Jan-Mar of 2010. New series have usually started in April on BBC1?

I never understood this. Who is holding up the "licensing" here? BBC America could certainly air these now. With S4 the aired it LONG after SciFi and touted it as a "premiere" when it was no such thing. By forcing everyone else to pursue "alternate viewing methods", BBC is only shooting themselves in the foot.

Ok, that seems to be more recent news than I had since prior to this I heard it was not until Christmas, so November is a slight improvement but likely won't change much for the US release.

And what are these "alternate viewing methods" of which you speak? BBC.uk?

Just finished watching, it was pretty enjoyable. The episode seemed like it flew by.

Just got done watching. Enjoyed it. Tennant is a cocky SOB. I love it. Michelle Ryan was nice.

I did not like the nutty professor, or the bus, but I will take what I can get with David Tennat (sniff). I only wish that Moffat was already at the reigns instead of RTD.

Next one in November!

Re: Doctor Who Series 4 (BBC) General Discussion [includes spoilers]

Slightly OT, but here's a 2:00 preview of the new K-9 series:

From Wikipedia:
As this is not a BBC production, direct references to Doctor Who are not possible for rights reasons. However, Paul Tams, the series co-creator, is quoted as saying: "K-9 will, however, be recognisable to fans new and old as the K-9. And to clear up the identity of which mark K-9 this is, to quote Doctor Who itself he is the original you might say!" A later elaboration from Bob Baker specifies that this is the very same K-9 last seen in the possession of Leela, and will in the pilot undergo a sort of "regeneration" process from which a new, more sophisticated and futuristic K-9 will emerge.
Clearly, this is targeted at kids. I'm cautiously optimistic, though it looks kinda dreadful. Meh.

First K9 series trailer

A preliminary trailer for the forthcoming K9 series has been released on YouTube and can be seen below.

The trailer was made to promote the series at the MIPTV festival in Cannes. Series co-creator and associate producer Paul Tams notes that "All music and titles and K9's voice are for demo purposes only and [are] not the actual voice, etc. that will be used in the programme." Tams also says that monsters designed for the series remain "under wraps".

The trailer shows the first glimpses of the redesigned K9 in action, as well as revealing the series' human characters. Filming for K9 continues in Australia through April; the BBC is not involved in the series' production. K9 is expected to air on Australia's Network Ten and UK digital channel Jetix/Disney XD in the autumn.

Re: Doctor Who Series 4 (BBC) General Discussion [includes spoilers]

Michelle Ryan was great, but aside from an obviously bigger budget this seemed like an average episode. I think the shots of the (kind of cheesy looking) alien hand gesturing to the doctor on a monitor was a reference back to classic who.

Yeah it was kind of average but I enjoyed it. Nice break from doing the taxes. AMT how do I hate thee. To bad they could have the girl be a regular. She was kind of hot in that outfit and a good actress.

The story was kinda thin on plot but it was enjoyable as hell. The hour flew by. Thought it got kind of hokey once they returned home. Still fun tho.

Now to start my Who withdrawl until November.
