Yeah, just as long as they don't tame down future seasons to appeal to CBS. And I really hope they don't end up screwing up future DVD releases somehow, like only releasing the edited versions for fear that CBS vewier accidentally pick up and watch the original.

I think that the opposite would happen, when it comes to selling the DVDs. A big selling point would be, "See the original un-edited show. More bloody! More sex!"

I hope so, but sometimes I feel that they don't put much thought into how something is released until the backlash comes (see Fullscreen versions of How I met your Mother and Weeds, as well as other shows who have shortened versions of episodes on the DVD's)

Dexter with less Doakes? Sign me up!

As many have mentioned, I don't mind either as long as I get my normal Dex.

I can't see how this will flow very well unless they filmed an alternate tamer version of scenes originally.

Can't wait to hear Deb uttering "Frack!" all the time in the new edited edition of Dexter...

If they're smart, they'll simply silence objectionable words rather than dubbing them over. That and rather than cutting scenes just obscure objectionable scenery similar to what TBS recently did when they aired The 40 Year Old Virgin "Uncut". Either way cool good for the show!

I think they should edit out all references to Dexter being a serial killer...just edit it in such a way that he's a blood splatter expert working for the Miami policed department, tracking a serial killer. It will be a big hit, and then when people buy the original DVD, imagine their surprise!

For the lazies:
"CBS didn't require the episodes to conform to the standard 44-minute length, so he only had to shave roughly six minutes off of each installment — and most cuts involved little more than dirty words. 'CBS never asked us to reduce the number of killings or to change the psychology,' explains Greenblatt. 'Aside from some cosmetic changes, you'll see virtually the same show. Dexter doesn't have a lot of overt violence or sexuality. It's just the premise that makes people squirm a bit.'"

Needless to say, I don't think the cuts are going to be that bad.

cool i'll be recording them and rewatching as I'm curious to see what changed and I just like the show that much. I've told alot of people about it who probably wouldn't otherwise see it so I hope it gains some new fans.
I'll be subscribing to Showtime before Season 3 begins (whenever that may be)

Parents will not tolerate this type of disturbing content on the public airwaves.
I love how the PTC claims to speak for all parents. Presumptuous, arrogant cocksuckers.

I won't even touch the PTC stuff, any organization that tries to speak for an entire group is usually flawed. Where were they when it was airing on showtime. It's obviously being toned down some for CBS (although not too much) and I think it's going to be a big hit when it hits CBS. Only a few more days to wait.

QFT.

Sure, you're getting it in HD on CBS, but who cares. I'd rather take a step down in PQ and watch it when I want, then having to wait every week for an episode. Also, I don't care if not much stuff is edited out, it's still edited. The DVD is only $27.99 at Amazon.com; I say buy it, and watch it when you want.

I'm probably going to get some heat for this, but I think Dexter is a much more watchable show when watched all at once, then one episode, one week at a time. I don't think I could watch this show every week (I don't have Showtime, so I can't anyway). Michael C. Hall is brilliant as Dexter, and the show holds your interest for the most part, but the drama in the station is a little tedious.

I felt that way more about lost than I did about dexter. Much easier to watch lost on DVD than week to week. Real easy to get tired of some of the plot lines if you have to wait for stuff to be explained. Dexter has enough going on in each episode to where i dont really mind the week to week episodes.

As far as DVDs, what about the little people? I personally don't like spending money on dvds (format issues, only gonna watch once, etc. ) I think cbs works better for people like me.

I didn't get to see the first season in HD, so I'm checking out this first episode. The editing isn't too bad, but some of the replacement lines are unintentionally hilarious.

Best one goes to Doakes, who says at one point to Dexter "I'm watching you, mother lover."

The dialogue replacement is what will make revisiting the show a blast. Also enjoying the HD-ness of it on CBS.

I watched the last half hour of tonight's episode. There were two horrible edits of f-bombs from Doakes, but other than that, it actually worked pretty well.

Lucky for you who have CBS in HD...since DirecTV doesn't have my local CBS affiliate in it.

^ I cracked up when Doakes uttered that line -- overall though, the edited version of this show played rather well on network tv.
