Friends question

My wife and I were just discussing this, and I was curious to see what the general consensus was.

tasha99 12-02-07 09:26 PM

Ross was right. However, the logical "right" doesn't really matter if you're going to get nagged about it for the rest of your life. He should have known he would likely get back together with her and he should have known better, even "on a break."

Doughboy 12-02-07 10:22 PM

They were technically on a break, so I guess Ross was right.

RobCA 12-02-07 10:50 PM

I'd have to side with Rachel on this one.

Yes, they were indeed "on a break", whatever that means, but that doesn't make it okay for Ross to sleep with someone else that same night. JMHO :)

Ross also figured that Rachel was rebounding with that guy from her work that he ALREADY thought she... was.... sleeping...

....am I actually having a conversation about Friends?

Look... It's pretty simple.

House says R&R were on a break, and I ain't arguing with House.

House said it, so yep, Ross was right.

Goat3001 12-03-07 03:10 AM

Funny this thread should come up, I've been watching the first few seasons of Friends the last few weeks.

I'm with Ross here. They were on a break, meaning they were essentially broken up. Besides, Ross wouldn't have banged that other chick if he didn't think that Rachel was with that other dude.

Michael Corvin 12-03-07 06:25 AM

 at House, but he's right. Ross.

"we were on a break" has to be one of the best running gags on a series.

TGM 12-03-07 06:29 AM

[sarcasm]Hey, did you guys think that Desi was in the right for always squashing poor Lucy's dreams of stardom?[/sarcasm]

Chew 12-03-07 06:29 AM

Technically, Ross was right. That doesn't mean he should've done what he did.

Charlie Goose 12-03-07 07:37 AM

Yes, Ross was right but only on a technicality. Banging another chick hours later was a poor decision.

I love the way House says, "I have to agree with your friend Pheebs."

FantasticVSDoom 12-03-07 07:40 AM

Have to side with Ross on this one... Oh man, never thought I would ever say that.

mookiemeister 12-03-07 08:13 AM

Technically Ross is right, but he shouldn't have taken Rachel's words that they should take a break so literally. I think Rachel just want to take a time-off with Ross hanging around so much. I don't think she mean for they to start seeing someone else so soon.

Raul3 12-03-07 05:57 PM

Since most of the users in this forum are male, I guess most will vote for "they were on a break". I voted for "they were on a break" and there's no way I'd vote other way. But again I'm a male.

Let me ask my wife if there's any poll like this in one of her forums...

Jimmy James 12-03-07 09:32 PM

Ross was absolutely right. Rachel was right to hold it against him but wrong to be so damned whiny about it. Her options were to get over it and be with Ross or not get over it and not be so damned annoying. I didn't watch the last season (or possibly more), but I understand it to be the case she eventually did get over it. It would have made me happier for them to just not speak to each other for a long, long time. That isn't necessarily what would have been best for the show, though.

dx23 12-03-07 10:17 PM

I'm with House on this.

hotsexyboi 12-03-07 10:45 PM

I say Rachel was right!

tofu 12-03-07 10:48 PM

Ross was technically right but he could have handled the situation better.

bboisvert 12-03-07 11:00 PM

How can this even be debated? It's been a while since I've seen it, but I believe that Rachel broke up with him by saying something like "We need a break from us".

If Ross isn't allowed to see other people (and, get some, if he wants)... what does "a break" mean? Rachel didn't say "give me a day to think about this" or "I love you but I just need some space"... she pushed him aside with no guidelines other than this isn't working and we need a break/time apart. That means seeing other people.

You can't cheat on someone who has rejected you.

Ross was right.

Because of this show, when an ex of mine decided we should "take a break", I asked her if I we could hook up with other people. When she said yes, I told her I'd rather just completely break up and never date again. It saved us from thinking we might get back together again, so there weren't going to be any hard feelings. We did hook up again, but never started dating again.

Red Dog 12-04-07 08:31 AM

Ross was right.

However, he risked a lot since he was dork who had little chance of doing better than Rachel even though the show had him dating hot women in later seasons.

Shannon Nutt 12-04-07 10:50 AM

Ross was right...but he's still a jerk. Rachel should have stayed with Joey. :)
