TV/movie/comics auteur Joss Whedon is back on TV with a new series on Fox starring Buffy regular Eliza Dushku. The sci-fi series Dollhouse will premiere next year; Whedon has a seven-episode order.



Dushku will play Echo, one of a group of secret agents who can be imprinted with different personalities depending on the assignment. Dollhouse refers to the setting, a futuristic dorm where the agents live.



Whedon came up with the idea and title for the series at lunch with Dushku in September, the idea was quickly pitched, and the deal signed. He told TV Week he was happy with the budget and the management team at Fox, where his short-lived Firefly series came to an ignominious end

Fox seems to love greenlighting his projects nearly as much as they enjoy cancelling them. I hope this is good of course :)

I certainly hope so.

According to TV Guide, Tim Minear is also involved.

The show is doomed.

I thought he'd sworn to never work with Fox again after Firefly?

I predict that this will be over-hyped, inevitable canceled, and over-mourned. The concept sounds good, but I'm not sure if Dushku has the acting chops to pull off a new personality every week however.

Not necessarily. If Nathan Fillion was in the cast, I'd say the show was a guaranteed goner. But with Whedon around, I'd give it at least a 50/50 shot at surviving its first season.

Joss and Eliza? I'm there. :)

Oh snap! Has Nathan Filion turned into the male version of Paul Marshall (in terms of dooming shows they appear in)? At least he hasn't managed to kill Desperate Housewives yet.

Sounds weird, but of course I'll check it out. Actually, come to think of it, the description sounds like how Alias was executed week to week.

Maybe not, but she's smoking hot. This sounds like a decent premise, and I dig Whedon.

You'd think that both of them would have learned (after Firefly and Tru Calling which BOTH had narrative arcs).

Does he have a choice? I mean his production company (Mutant Enemy) has always been with FOX (except for Serenity). Still I would have shopped it to the CW first - but maybe his budget was too high to consider that.

In any case, I'd program a season pass on my TiVo today if I could! :D

FOX is producing it, but will it air on FOX? Buffy and Angel were also produced by FOX Studios, but they aired on different networks.

Nah, he's not quite at the level yet. I'd say Eric Balfour is the male equivalent of Paula Marshall. He didn't technically kill 24 when he (re)joined the cast in Season 6, but creatively the show pretty much died.

As long as she's never her True Lies or Bye Bye Love personality.

I get an Alias + Dark Angel + Bionic Woman + Chuck vibe from that description.

Who cares if Eliza can or can't pull it off, as long as sexy spy outfits are involved.

Is Joss Whedon involved? Is Eliza Dushku starring?

Then this might be my favorite show of all time.

I give it 2 episodes followed by a dvd set with "5 never before aired episodes!!!"

Well, right now it's only a 7-episode order. They're gonna need a huge premier to order 6 more, and consistent ratings to get a full season. Which I don't ever recall happening for a genre show on Fox.
