"The Fun in Funeral"

A mysterious death at the Schatz Funeral Home sends Ned back to Couers d' Couers again. Chuck holds true to the threat she made in the pilot by baking anti-depressants into her aunt's food--in the form of Ned's pies. Olive delivers one to them and stumbles onto Chuck's secret.

Saw Olive on Kimmel last night and she looked tons better than she does on the show, and she is a pixie of a woman. I did not realize she was a local, I will have to check with my friends that went to the same college at the same time as her to get some scoop.

Yeah, I remember she was in FHM or one of those magazines and it said she was only like 4 ft something. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to tonight's episode.

That just seems way too tall. I hereby volunteer to measure her for accuracy.

Saw the episode last night and it was great. I hope ABC picks it up for a full season (if they haven't done so already?).

great episode. Much better than last week I thought.

Snowmaker 10-17-07 09:08 PM

Loved the Winnie the Pooh references with Chi stuck in the window.

Patman 10-17-07 09:36 PM

I found the start of the episode a little too morose, purposefully so, but it ended well enough, plus Olive knows a secret and she seems content to sit on it until she can truly pull the rug out from under Chuck.

Some of the dialogue was pretty good, especially the wry delivery by Emerson. Also Emerson's Pooh imitation was kinda funny. Kick!

loved the winnie the pooh scene and when the coffen slammed shut and the time was almost up and seeing that guy run out of there, great scene.

favorite episode so far

Snowmaker 10-17-07 10:03 PM

I also got a kick out of the mermaid tail bags.

"Ah Hell No!!" (runs from funeral home)

I also saw "olive" on Kimmel and I was laughing my ass off. Kristen, is funny and adorable.

Another nice episode. I'm liking that there's a thread running through the series as opposed to each episode being a complete stand-alone story.

Another good episode. As noted before, some great Pooh references. It would have been great if he had found some honey to grease up Chi McBride thru the window. Definitely interested to see more about Chuck's backstory.

I'm certainly glad they have Chi there to provide some comic relief to many scenes. Although I love the look and story of the show, it needs those jokes to lighten things up just a bit.

I kept trying to place the aunt who's not Swoosie and it finally came to me last night: Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors.

Snowmaker 10-18-07 07:20 AM

So, how many days had passed between the first episode and this one? I would have thought that first undertaker that died would have smelled pretty ripe by now.

I concur.

I'm in love w/ Anna Friel.

And this is the best role of Chi McBride's career.

I hope Chuck keeps calling him Pooh.

Yeah me too. Burburry tail bags.

Olive is played by Kristin Chenoweth - a fairly famous Broadway actress. She won an Tony for playing Sally in 1999's revival of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and was also nominated for playing Glinda in Wicked. This show is chock FULL of famous Broadway types - I hope they can keep getting that sort of talent because it is always fun to see (like Raul Esparza in this episode!).

Flay 10-18-07 08:20 AM

Absolutely Love this show.

Anyone else pleasantly surprised how quickly the story is moving along? I thought it would be weeks before Chuck figured out the Death rule and Olive finding out that Chuck was the Lonely Tourist.

CPA-ESQ. 10-18-07 08:28 AM

I liked the Asian Civil War guy

I couldn't get over an Asian guy talking like Tea Bag from Prison Break.

Groucho 10-18-07 08:30 AM

I noticed that the funeral director twins were played by Greg Grunberg's brother.
