All my TVs are ready since each has a digital box (though my main one would be fine since it's an HDTV anyway).

You can apply now, but the coupons won't be mailed until Feb 17, 2008 (one year before the "last day of analog.")

Also, boxes aren't in stores yet, there have been no independent reviews/reports on various boxes, and the coupons when issues are only valid for 90 days.

It might be wise to not rush. But in any case 414 days to go.

According to the government site:
"TV converter boxes are not expected to be available in retail stores until late February or early March. You will receive your Coupon(s) then. The Coupon will expire within 90 days from the date it is issued."

So you'll get the coupons when the converter boxes hit the streets, which may be Feb 17, or may be later.

This will be good for cox in my area. I suspect they will still charge 11.70 for the digital service and digital box rental (this is on top of the regular rates, not for HD).

I plan on doing anything. I just gave away my older CRT set to a friend of my wife. Plus, I get sat anyway, so this wouldn't affect me in the least bit.

I'll probably sell of my analog CRT within the next month, before the general public understands what's going on. Since I have a hard time watching OTA on my big screen, I'll pick up a smaller HD tv with an antenna to grab local channels.

I just signed up for the coupon. I swore when I baought my CRT 9 years ago that when it died i was going 16x9 plasma. This thing is going on strong and the pictures is still as good as the day I bought it. Frustrated

I'm getting convertors, but won't apply for coupons until I see lotsa products in stores. I don't trust the gov't and the manufacturers/sellers to have their coordination together. What's the rationale behind the 90-day time limit anyway?
