Kitchen Nightmares--"The Mixing Bowl"--10/3/07

Gordon visits another crappy restaurant in New York.

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Gordon visits The Mixing Bowl, a small restaurant in Bellmore, NY. With the owner in the kitchen and an inexperienced manager running the front of the house, things are going downhill fast. And with coupons and special discounts being this restaurant's specialty, it's no wonder they aren't making money. Gordon has to make some major changes to keep "The Mixing Bowl" afloat on KITCHEN NIGHTMARES Wednesday, Oct. 3 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

He sure cried a lot. Too bad they didn't spruce up the outside of the restaurant.

I honestly believe that Mike believes that it is "his" restaurant and that is why he is so emotional about it. Billy needs to step up and make sure Mike knows that he is only the manager and can be replaced.

Did any one else notice that before the commercial break, when they have four different images up on the screen, the top right image showed Mike in the kitchen and what looked like Gordon's Asian Sous Chef from Hells kitchen.

I think he brings in extra kitchen staff to help with the new menu and re-opening for the show.

I kinda wish I didn't watch the BBC edition of this show. It makes this one feel so tedious. Not it is "Extreme Makeover: Restaurant Edition" where Gordon's "crew" buys a bunch of crap for the place.

I liked it better when he would make it work with what they had. Plus, how come the worthless people NEVER get fired. I mean the guys wife should have taken over as manager and cut the salary of Mike. Plus, I would be pissed he gets 50% of all tips. That seems huge!

Will we ever have one Kitchen Nightmares thread without the now seemingly obligatory comparison to the BBC version?

Considering how lowly rated the show is, doesn't seem like there will be many more chances.

Do the people at Fox think we're retarded? When the manager was yelling at the wife, you could easily tell it was after they were closed, but they edited it (badly) to make it look like he was yelling amongst their customer, with the customers reacting to it as if they were right there. What a bunch of cock!

The show is only 10 episodes and I don't think FOX was expecting this to be a ratings smash hit considering the timeslot. It would have done even worse had they kept it at Thursday at 9pm against CSI.

Yeah I agree we should stop comparing this to the BBC version and watch it for what it is.

and when they had the manager waiting outside - it was clearly in the morning light. They must have reshot that scene at 5-6am

Seems like they had a ton of people coming for dinner because they knew chef ramsey was in the house.

The chef/owner seemed like a really quiet, mellow, good guy.

One thing that stuck me last night, why are all these restaurants so far (including the one coming up) in New York? Wasn't this supposed to focus on the "worst" restaurants in the US as a whole?

I think he has to commute back and forth from his own restaurant in NY, which keeps him from venturing too far away.

I was actually comparing it to Extreme makeover. I mentioned the BBC only to note the difference.

Usually restaurant problems start with a manager who is customer-friendly but ineffective or lazy.

The editing of this show is ridiculous. Present it as it is or don't present it at all.

Ramsey's notoriety and presence is one of the big draws for the immediate crowd in addition to the compensated meals. The true test of the restaurant's success is what happens several months after the camera crews are gone and the show has aired.

Gordon: “How do you communicate with you’re wife, email?” .

Another hilarious episode, although, not as good as the previous two episodes. The owner, Billy, was a very quiet man but seemed very nice. Mike wasn’t the worst “manager” I’ve ever seen on the show but boy did he like to cry a lot.

Anyways, I hope (probably will) Kitchen Nightmares gets all 10 episodes aired on FOX. I doubt that we’ll ever see another season of it on FOX though. In order for this show to get decent ratings, it has to be on in the summer.

I think next summer, or the summer after, FOX should air both Hell’s Kitchen & Kitchen Nightmares, it would be a good summer lineup.
