Big Shots - Series Premiere - 9/27/07

Didn't see a thread for this, which I'm guessing means nobody watched it? I didn't real plan on watching it, but recorded it because there was nothing else being recorded. It was actually halfway decent, IMO, kind of a "guy version" of Desperate Housewives, I think? (I've never seen DH)

Chew 09-28-07 08:19 AM

It's on the TiVo, but that's about as far as I've got so far.

Great cast, but I've yet to read any positive critic reviews about it.

JB7 09-28-07 08:56 AM

Sitting on my DVDR waiting for this weekend. I've read some positive reviews on it. I am keeping in mind that its only a pilot, that Rob Thomas came on for the next episode, and its just entertainment. So I will be my own judge over the next few episodes. It does have a wonderful cast and Charisma Carpenter is going to be guest starring. Yay!

Jadzia 09-28-07 09:43 AM

I watched it. It was kind of meh. I'll check it out again and see if it grabs me. I do like the cast.

Anyone think Michael Vartan's wife was kind of plain to
1) Be married to Michael Vartan
2) Cheat on him
?

I think they could have done a better job casting most of the women in this show. McDermott's ex-wife also looked about 15 years older than him.

JediMindTricks 09-28-07 10:15 AM

saw it last night. it was ehhh. it has potential...mostly due to its main cast. but it was a bit dry.

and yea, i agree about the women.

and it does kind of feel like a guy's DH.

*raises hand* I was shocked when they casted her at James/MV wife. Wonder how much she'll really be on? Looks like they had 2nd thoughts since she wasn't in the 2nd cast picture. Oh well no loss there... There had to be more realistic choices for his wife out there.

Also from what i've read for the next few episodes, she cheated on James just to cheat on him. I just don't get that at all. Sure James has flaws, everyone does but dang they have 2 kids. Try and work it out.

I do like Jessica Collins and Nia Long. But the rest I can leave. Right along with Duncan/DM. ;)

starseed1981 09-28-07 10:22 AM

Wait wait wait. Did somebody above say that Charisma Carpenter will be guest starring? ....something just got added to the Tivo.

JediMindTricks 09-28-07 10:23 AM

nia long got big.

Yes. Her first appearance is Nov. 1. and I guess she might be Brody Johns/Titus wife.

One thing that bothered me in the "realism" department - all these big shot CEOs are running around doing their own dirty work (with the hooker/reporter thing)? Wouldn't they have their own team of lawyers and PIs doing this stuff?

good point.

but then again, i'm not a "big shot" so i'd have no idea?

derekjet 09-28-07 10:41 AM

good fun ... even with that nerd josh molina.

The ones I know, do.

DRG 09-28-07 12:49 PM

I only caught part of this because for whatever reason my DVR refused to record it. I had nothing else recording and plenty of space available, but for whatever reason it was technically impossible to get it to record, so I only caught 10 minutes in the middle.

adamblast 09-28-07 01:23 PM

I hadn't even heard of this show, and by most accounts it's nothing special... But that's too many hot guys I already like to pass it up. I'm not missing the next ep.

I promise not to criticise the straight guys in the forum for watching lame shows with babes. :D

Red Dog 09-28-07 01:41 PM

I thought it was a fun show - some decent laughs, particularly when it came to Dontrelle. Plus it offers Paige Turco.

Patman 09-28-07 06:25 PM

I liked it, but it's a fluffy piece of entertainment. It's a little tough to be all that sympathetic to these "big shots", though. Did enjoy seeing Paige Turco getting some regular work, as well as Peyton List, who plays Cameron, Duncan's daughter (and I remember as Lucy Lane on Smallville for an episode, and was on Day Break for a few episodes). Didn't realize Jessica Collins (Marla) had all that going on underneath her wardrobe, but remembered her from Tru Calling.

I hope the writing gets a little sharper and provides some more less cliched subplots and situations that these "big shots" face in their daily lives. The male cast is overall pretty good, though.

Yeah - that was nice. Hard to reconcile that body with how annoying her character was on Boston Legal.

Holly Martins 09-28-07 06:50 PM

Meh.

I DVR'd it because of the stellar cast but I only made it through about 15 minutes before I erased it and canceled my season pass.

My time is too precious to spend watching programing that's mildly entertaining at best.

Jadzia 09-29-07 11:05 AM

I just read that this show actually beat ER in the ratings.

Guess you never saw 'The Ranch'

I don't see any problems with the wives. In real life men sometimes marry women who doesn't look like models. Yes it's true.
I thought it was refreshing and far more realistic that they weren't all 4 fucking hot young pieces of ass.

What I wondered the most is how the hell Duncan found Dantrell hot!?

Red Dog 09-29-07 12:49 PM

He probably married his average-looking wife before he became a 'big shot.'

mdc3000 09-29-07 01:49 PM

watched it. thought it was pretty brutal and the girl playing Michael Vartan's wife was fugly... one more chance and I'm out.

Just saw it and have to agree. Just call it Desperate Househusbands, just not as good.

Patman 09-29-07 08:55 PM

James (Vartan) married his high school sweetheart, that's why she's not uber-hot like other big shot wives who married after making the money to attract the hotties.
