Kitchen Nightmares--"Dillons" 9/26/07

Another week, another dirty restaurant

Synopsis:
Spoiler:
Chef Gordon Ramsay is hitting the big city in an attempt to revamp Indian restaurant Dillons and make it one of the hottest venues in town. Only steps away from Ramsay's own New York restaurant, he quickly changes things inside and out, in preparation for a grand reopening celebration in the "Dillons" episode of KITCHEN NIGHTMARES Wednesday, Sept. 26 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

This is the one where the owner is suing Gordon & Fox correct?

DJariya 09-26-07 09:14 AM

Yes same restaurant

greg9x 09-26-07 09:43 PM

Is the owner suing or the manager who got fired ?? Know these things are scripted/edited for maximum 'controversy' ... but the guy did seem pretty useless as a manager.... although he did seem pretty chummy with the waitresses.

orangerory 09-26-07 09:54 PM

The manager sued - he also tried to get an injunction to prevent the release of the episode. Guess that didn't work out too well.

firteen88 09-26-07 09:54 PM

That was some disgusting stuff. Does anyone have anymore info on whose suing ramsey?

Drop 09-26-07 10:09 PM

It was the manager who got fired that sued, it appears his case was dismissed.

Anyway, I liked it more than last week, thanks mostly to not having that Italian guy. It still isn't as good as the UK version, but I'll keep watching. I just like these stories.

Norm de Plume 09-26-07 11:03 PM

The show is manipulative trash, but the premise will keep me tuning in for the time being, against my better judgment.

What I hate is the typical-for-Fox format; the rigged events, the hyper editing, the constant music. And how many more times do we have to hear that impossibly enervating metallic SCREEEECH sound effect that is played whenever something "shocking" has happened? It was used all the time on "Hell's Kitchen" too, and I think I recall having heard it on many other shows. Fox really seems to gear its shows to cretins, phlegmatic Twinkie-scarfing sofa spuds who can't think for themselves and need to be figuratively led everywhere by the hand.

As for this episode, from what we were shown (which I don't necessarily believe was the whole truth), Vince McMahon really was useless and deserved to be fired. Yet, I am still waiting for someone smart and poised to give Ramsey a blistering dressing-down for his rudeness, or, failing that, a beatdown (even though I'm opposed to violence as a general rule, I think it might be instructive for Ramsey, to learn how to conduct himself respectfully and without bluster).

I liked this episode better than last weeks, mostly because they talked more about food, but I also can't stand it for the reasons Norm stated above on how it's Foxified.

Maybe they don't have the time, but like how last week's restaurant was given a new stove, this week they were given an new make-over. The charity aspects are lame - are these places that pathetic that they need these hand outs?

chrisih8u 09-27-07 01:04 AM

What a gross episode.

And I can't stand how they give out so much of what's going to happen later in the episode. It goes way beyond previews. I must have seen the bug parts a dozen times.

I don't like how they are giving the restaurants so many free things. Last week was a new kitchen, and this week is a remodeled restaurant. That's not teaching them how to run a more efficient resaurant.

are those violations before or after Ramsey's visit?

i dont know but its from 04/26/2007. if it happened before the show than itcouldnt have been that long before taping could it? which would mean that the restaurant was closed at the time of taping and every patron in the beginning was an actor. then ramsey cleaned it up and passed inspection to reopen again.

I wish they had carried over more elements of the original version. Like Gordon helping out with marketing, accounting & more new menu preperation. I know that doesn't sound interesting but when you saw it it was truly engaging.

TeamAnS 09-27-07 09:18 AM

I wonder how much it took for the owner to get the "consultant" to stay on. If this guy was as good as Gordon says, then the owner does have money to burn, especially paying three managers.

DJariya 09-27-07 09:23 AM

Gross, but very good episode. Much Much better than the premiere. I could not believe how fucking disgusting that restaurant was. Loved seeing Gordon confront that tool Martin....who IMO is a fucking joke of a "General Manager."

The opening tease gives away way too much! The show doesn't need it.

I love this show - but agree that I would like to see more of the "business side" cutting costs to increase margins etc.

However, people are tuning in to see the "fights" - I know I am :)

slop101 09-27-07 10:38 AM

I wouldn't care how or even if they turned that place around - having seen that rat/cockroach infested place full of rotten food, I could never ever eat there. When my kitchen in my own home is a billion times cleaner than a restaurant's, it's time to pack it up. Hell, my factory which is filled with machines and no food is far cleaner than that place's food storage. It's like authentic Indian cuisine as if they brought Calcutta with them - they still have leprosy and The Plague there, you know.

DRG 09-27-07 10:58 AM

I thought it was odd that they never addressed the pest control issue... they talked about a thorough cleaning but never mentioned an exterminator or any other issues related to stopping vermin from getting into the restaurant.

If anyone's interested, here's the restaurant website:

There's no mention of Ramsey or the show far as I can tell.

And here's a wikipedia article about that chef:

Yeah, yeah this show is Foxified & it’s not as good as the UK version in terms of details but it’s fu*king hilarious!

Martin was indeed a joke of a “General Manager” & he needed to be fired because he did fu*k all & just let the waitresses stroke his hair.

I’m in the same boat as slop101, I don’t care if they cleaned up & made everything ‘Ok’; If I knew the restaurant had Rats & (even worse) Cockroach problems, I’d never eat their. I loved Ramsay’s signature' rant after seeing all the Cockroach’s & telling the staff they’re shutting down until everything’s cleaned up.

Ramsay in the ‘pest control’ suit with the ghostbusters music playing was fu*king hilarious.

Another great episode (even better than the first) & I’ll be tuning in for more hilarity!

An article I dug up about the lawsuit mentions that the episode was taped back in April.. so I'm guessing they must have taped it right after it was shut down..

Also, did anyone notice that they spelled 'Dillons' wrong on the new signs outside the place? It was spelled DILLIONS on all the new signage.

Great episode though. I've never seen the BBC version, but I'm enjoying this one thoroughly...

Big Boy Laroux 09-27-07 02:22 PM

Geminix, I noticed that, too. Dillions.

Why even keep the same name anywhere on the signage? i would think they'd want a totally fresh start.

derekjet 09-27-07 02:51 PM

Looks like the 'Incompetent Manager' will be a recurring theme.

The Guido Manager was a bigger putz, but it was close.
