Kid Nation - Premiere 9/19/07

What, you say you have kids at home you could watch kill each other instead? hmmm but who will you watch once they are dead. You didn't think of that did you?

I'm trying to watch this (solely for the train wreck factor) but wow does this show suck. I don't think I will even finish the episode.

It was a train wreck. I'm really not sure why I wasted the hour of my life on this show.

I'm not sure why a new thread had to be started and with a title like this. I guess I'll start an official thread next week.

I guess I liked it? Watched it all the way through. I felt they we're exploiting the kids, but I was kind of curious of the social experiment.

I chose not to watch this, but I think the premiere will get some decent numbers, but I am hoping it will tank in the weeks ahead.

Hoping Jericho will reclaim this timeslot soon!

I just can't get past that this is just a really dumb idea for a show to begin with. It's difficult to even imagine anything about this premise that sounds the least bit entertaining. The possibilities go from fantastically boring to simply horrifying. Entertaining does not fall within that range. No thanks.

I have to admit that I found the whole idea of the show kinda creepy from the moment I heard about it.

I intended to watch it, though, just to see what all the hubbub was about, but I had two other things recording at that time already. Just thought I would drop in to see if I missed anything good. From the responses here, I guess I didn't ...

The High School Musical crowd will probably give this show good numbers.

Plus the mid season surprise appearance of Dick Donato as Jesse James should help.

I had watched 15 minutes of this show and fell out of my chair - from shock on how something this rediculous could be aired on TV. This goes alongside "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?"

Well, i wouldnt know, though I think it would be hilarious to a certain extent if they had shoot-outs.

I kind of liked it

I guess I like watching group dynamics, and how people are born with certian traits - you could see natural leaders in people as young as 8yrs old.

These are things that are just "in" people and can not be taught.

I'll keep watching it until it gets stupid

Kind of boring - and watching kids break down and cry every few minutes isn't my idea of solid entertainment... I'll watch it again, but boy, this was pretty damn bad.

I really liked it. I'm surprised at the negative responses here. It was very much like Survivor with kids, but with each episode ending with a positive (kid getting rewarded for hard work, good attitude, etc) as opposed to a negative (someone getting voted off). I hope the rest of the season is a good as this episode was. I still don't get the exploitation angle that some people are touting - these kids weren't put on the show involuntarily.

Mods: I agree with mrpayroll about the thread title, can we get it changed?

CBS' controversial "Kid Nation" premiered to decent numbers Wednesday, while FOX won the demographic title with its night of debuts.

CBS won the night overall with a 5.9 rating/10 share. NBC, 5.2/9, came in second, and FOX was third at 4.8/8. ABC's 3.9/7 was good for fourth, and The CW came in at 2.8/5.

The adults 18-49 crown went to FOX, which scored a 3.0 rating in the key ad-sales demographic. NBC took second at 2.8, followed by CBS at 2.6. The CW, 2.1, edged ABC, 2.0, for fourth.

"Deal or No Deal," 6.4/11, put NBC on top at 8 p.m. The debut of "Kid Nation" earned a 5.8/10 for CBS. FOX slid into third with the premieres of "Back to You," 6.0/10, and "'Til Death," 4.9/8. "America's Next Top Model" began its season with a 3.2/5 for The CW, topping a pair of "According to Jim" reruns on ABC

Those folks don’t watch ‘Quality’ Television.

I said I wouldn't watch Kid Nation & I didn't. CBS really has put 'The worst idea for a TV series' ever in primetime. Hey, maybe that'll be a new catagory for the *Emmys* next year & this show will win.

I thought this was okay until it turned into another fucking game show. Why couldn't the kids decide who gets what job and those jobs' salaries? Why couldn't they elect the council? And they can win $20,000 for being the best kid that day or whatever? How is that realistic? Has anyone ever just had a ton of money dropped in their lap for being a good, altruistic, hard-working person?

And why do kids give such a shit about proving that kids can do stuff when they're only going to be kids for a few more years?
