Gossip Girl (The CW) -- Series Disussion Thread

The only reason I'm watching this is to hear Kristen Bell...hopefully it turns out to be decent. How much of a "chick" show is it supposed to be?

I was also going to tune in for Kristen Bell, which is almost sad since she's just doing a voice over. Then I got a load of a billboard for this show. Looks like some kind of 90210 thing. Ugh.

I'll just wait to see Bell on Hereos I guess.

I'm tuning in because Josh Schwartz is head writer and Executive Producer on this along with Stephanie Savage, who both worked on The OC. Also, looks like a decent teen drama.

I had no idea Veronica Mars was "Gossip Girl".

We got it last night here in Canada and I won't spoiler anything but good lord in heaven what a steaming pile of dung! Someone please flush this show ASAP.

It's trying to be too hip for it's own good and is just a less fun, lower rent version of THE OC - but I'll keep watching. I loved Kristen's narration, thought it was great and I've had a crush on the girl who plays 'Blair' since she was on Surface. I thought the Humphries family was the most interesting part of the show and I like their dynamic, but the other stuff was just meh - but since it's Josh Scwartz and I was an OC fan, I'll give it a few more eps to improve...but so far, pretty much a chick show.

I haven't seen it yet (obviously), but I get the feeling you're a hard person to please. I'm glad I have low standards, makes me a happier person.

I have low standards (to the point of catatonia when in front of the tv) and I have to agree - dreck. And not even fun dreck. Just awful.

The extended preview I watched on YouTube didn't give me much hope. But I'll DVR it and give it a shot. When Josh Schwartz actually pays attention to his shows(Seasons 1 and 4 of The O.C.), they can be pretty entertaining.

I've actually been looking forward to this one. Josh Schwart alone is getting me excited. Plus I have to tune-in, since one of my friends from high school is in it.

Who is he, did he ever rape anyone, and will you be altering his Wikipedia page with the answer?

Er, wrong forum.

Well, it does have streaks of "The O.C." in it, but it spins it with the Humphries kids being the outsiders, and Serena being the insider who isn't as enamored by the privileged life that these spoiled NY brats live anymore. Chuck is one nasty dude, a total rich a-hole with no redeeming qualities from the onset.

The pilot is okay, but not as interesting as I had hoped, but I'll stick around for a few more episode to see how it levels out. Meester is decent as Blair, but I thought Blake Lively looked a bit too old as Serena, supposedly a high schooler as well. The adults sharing a past is a little too convenient, even for an island town.

As per usual (with the majority of WB/CW shows of recent) - decent music choices, terrible actors.

I might stick with it (will give it another episode) but it will probably be for laughs.

Didn't suck. Needs Bret Easton Ellis on the writing staff.

For a show that was being sold or at least marketed as Schwartz's East Coast version of The O.C., as far as the pilot eps. are concerned, the latter can be justifiably declared a brilliant masterpiece compared to this dreck. Leighton Meester's beauty and abundant Kristen Bell voiceovers couldn't even save this one for me.

Numbingly vapid and flat-out awful.

Eh. What I saw was "Shrill Voice Narrates Over B and S BS and Hammers in Title of the Show Before Each Commercial Break"

I'll give it one more try next week.

I didn't think this was that bad. Of course that happens when you're still watching Painkiller Jane and Flash Gordon. The two leads are nice to look at and anything with Kristen Bell is a plus. They do need to focus a little more on the Humphrey's though, as the best scenes involved someone from the family.

Hopefully Josh Schwartz learned his lesson after the OC and will be more hands on.

"Vapid" seemed like a good choice of words. I lasted about two minutes. As soon as they tried to use the word "BFFs" in normal conversation, I was gone.

Yet ironically the OC never bothered me. I really liked that show.

I must be getting very old because I couldn't identify with the characters except maybe for the Dad who used to date the Rich Woman.
Are there really people like the young kids in the show?

Not bad. Love the KB voice overs. The boyfriend of Blaire could be replaced...boring.

I miss Veronica Mars :-(

show seemed to be taking it's self way too seriously..

The voice over is sort of perky happy but what is going as she talks about it is just boring to look at. Color pallet was dark over cast new york and everyone wearing brown and parties with low light..

it was not so much bad as it as just, as I said, dull.. I was thinking it was going to more like Heathers or Mean Girls as in over the top bitchy chicks etc.. Where as at least in this ep everyone was all sort of mopey about everything..

blah.. but of course, to be fair I will give it a few more shots.. At least the cast is filled with hot chicks and I hope it gets interesting soon.
