Re: The Wire, R.I.P.
". . .and all the pieces matter."
There aren't a lot of "WOW" moment over the course of the series. It's almost The Sopranos' opposite in that way. The Sopranos had a "WOW" moment nearly every episode, but when I finished the series, it felt like it was less than the sum of it's parts. I think it's reasonable to compare The Wire to a jigsaw puzzle. A single part is not impressive, but continue to put them together and you get a greater picture, a greater story, a greater meaning. |

Re: The Wire, R.I.P.
This is pretty funny:
Corrections: Wire Creator Not Actually Optimistic At All On Saturday, The Washington Post ran an item on a college class about HBO's The Wire. "There is nothing that makes me more optimistic about the future of the country," Wire creator David Simon reportedly said. Which is almost right. Via Balloon Juice, the Post's correction: A Names & Faces item in the Nov. 27 Style section, about a Johns Hopkins University course based on the HBO drama series "The Wire," misquoted the show's creator, David Simon, who visited the class this semester. According to Simon and the Baltimore Sun, he responded to a student's question about hopeful signs for her generation by saying, "There is nothing that makes me optimistic about the future of the country." The Names & Faces item incorrectly included the word "more" before "optimistic." |
Re: The Wire, R.I.P.
Anyone know how his new show is doing? I'm planning on getting the DVD when it comes out but I've not heard much about it ratings-wise or review-wise.

Anyone have any idea if/when it's going to come out on Blu-Ray ?

Re: The Wire, R.I.P.
If by David Simon's new show you mean Treme, I saw all of Season 1 and enjoyed it, but it's nothing like The Wire. I don't know how the ratings were, but it didn't seem to catch the general public's imagination. However, it was renewed for Season 2.

Re: The Wire, R.I.P.
I've been catching up on The Wire on DirecTV's 101 Network. It's into the second season now and is the most anticipated show for me each week.
