Now, that is a good choice. I foresee no drop in quality.

Ehh, kind of underwhelming after the Harvey Keitel rumor, but I guess we shall see. I hope it works out. Still not sure if I want to watch...

Entertainment Weekly was reporting that Keitel was commanding creative control in the series and various perks which led to his deal falling apart.

Also, I doubt Keitel would have been capable of signing on for a 5-year contract to work on the series. He would be in his 70's working on the show and frankly I don't see many actors in that age group working in film let alone TV. I think the grind of working 10 months a year 14 hours a day would have killed him before the contract expired.

Interesting choice. Not as excited as I would have been if it was Keitel but I will still keep watching the show with Mantegna on board.

Joe Mantegna is a great choice. Starter Wife was just a mini-series.

My wife gave up on this towards the end of the season, saying it was too depressing. With this decision as Mandy's replacement I think it is time for me to move on too.

Too depressing? What the hell were you expecting watching a show about FBI Profilers tracking serial killers?

I think the world of Joe Mantegna as an actor. But he's way, way wrong for this role/show.

That's being a little judgemental. 2 years ago, could you have visualized Thomas Gibson or Mandy Patinkin playing an FBI Profiler?

I'll be honest, when I first heard about this show 2 years ago, I thought it was doomed going against Lost on Wednesday's at 9pm. However, I watched the pilot and I was pleasantly surprised and have stuck with the show ever since.

^^^ Thatís what I thought as well. I didnít think the show would survive up against Lost but it did surprisingly well in the ratings. I like Criminal Minds not because itís the most original show in the history of television or because of the acting (Mr. Gibson is trying his best though) but the stories are just plain out entertaining.

I was (& still am) sick of the repetitive stories on the CSIís & even NCIS doesnít have the entertaining stories that Criminal Minds does. All the CBS crime dramas have the same ďfeelĒ too them but CM is a step above the others currently. It could fall this season but Iím not saying anything until I see this upcoming season.

The official statement from CBS and it also mentions Mantegna's character's name as well. He's coming on board in episode 5

EMMY AWARD NOMINEE JOE MANTEGNA JOINS THE CAST OF "CRIMINAL MINDS"

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13 ó Joe Mantegna will join the cast of CRIMINAL MINDS starring as FBI Special Agent David Rossi. Mantegna is scheduled to make his first appearance in the fifth episode of the season which is broadcast Wednesdays (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. CRIMINAL MINDS also stars Thomas Gibson, Paget Brewster, Shemar Moore, Matthew Gray Gubler, AJ Cook and Kirsten Vangsness.

"We are all THRILLED to have Joe Mantegna joining our family. He's an incredible actor, a genuinely nice person and, as a fellow Chicagoan, I can tell you he makes fantastic Italian Beef sandwiches and Chicago Style Hot Dogs," said Executive Producer Ed Bernero.

"We've been fans of Joe's since his early days on the stage and think he will be a wonderful addition to our CRIMINAL MINDS cast," added Executive Producers Mark Gordon and Deb Spera.

Special Agent Rossi is an original member of the Behavioral Analysis Unit who took early retirement to go on lecture and book tours, and has volunteered to return to the unit.

Joe Mantegna is currently nominated for an Emmy Award for his role in the summer mini-series, "The Starter Wife." His additional television credits include the series "Joan of Arcadia," "First Monday," the mini-series "The Last Don" (Emmy Award nomination), and "The Last Don II," all on the Network, as well as "The Simpsons," the television movies "The Rat Pack" (Emmy Award nomination) and three installments of "Spenser for Hire." His feature film credits include "Searching for Bobby Fischer," "The Godfather, Part III," "Bugsy" and "The Simpsons Movie." Mantegna won a Tony Award for his performance in "Glengarry Glen Ross."
