Traveler "The Exchange"-----Series/Season Finale 7/18/07

It's funny that this is being promoted as a "Season Finale" even though a few weeks ago the contract options for all the actors were not renewed.

Hopefully most of the questions are answered and it ends well.

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
"The Exchange" Will Traveler's past is revealed when he reunites with Jay and Tyler to bring down Jack Freed, the man behind the Drexler bombing. Meanwhile, Marlow is suddenly taken off the case, on the Season Finale of "Traveler."

Sorry to hear this won't be returning. I thought it was a very good show. Yet another show mistreated by the networks.

I think you mean mistreated by viewers. It's ratings are terrible and have not improved.

Lets see...who's to blame? ABC premiered it in the Summer when people don't want to be in the house watching television. Oh yeah, that would be the network that should be blamed. Had this premiered last fall, I think it would have done well with viewers.

Call me old fashioned but I also enjoyed the time when networks gave a show a few seasons to grow. Cheers which became one of the best shows of all-time would have been cancelled if the current standard today was applied back then.

Agreed. In my opinion absolutely nothing was really wrapped up. No wonder viewers didn't tune in. I wish *I* hadn't now!

Wow, that really ruined the show for me. I watched figuring there would be a resolution.

As I mentioned above, the creator of Traveler mentioned in his blog on TV Guide's web site that ABC passed on renewing the contract options of all the actors on this show....so yes, the show is DOA.

Yeah, this was another show that had a promising pilot but seemed like they didn't know what to do after that. It really petered out for me and I only hung in since I knew it was a limited number of episodes.

Best parts of the series for me were the supporting cast/guest stars: Viola Davis, Neal McDonough, Stephanie Niznik. The lead characters were bland, bland, bland.

I think I liked the cast better than I liked the show.

Given the fact things were actually happening in that last episode, I thought we'd get some resolution. I believe I read they completely rewrote the last episode when ABC cut them short. Oh well, I don't feel like it was a waste of time, it filled the gap until Kill Point, Damages and Mad Men start.

I almost didn't watch the show because of the leads. But it turned out to be a terrific season -- much better than the last season of 24 for instance IMO. I'm disappointed it won't be coming back ... especially after a pretty good ending. Of course, since it was a cliffhanger, that shortshrifts the DVD sales.

Here's some free advice for producers: If your show gets canned, you better have a wrap-up in the can if you want anyone to buy it later.

Is it really, really too much to ask for these guys to film two separate endings? It's like they simply assume that their show will be back next season. Not that they really care, but people do like to have some sense of resolution.

Thought it was a decent show, certainly better than another crime procedural or medical drama, and somewhat reminiscent of The Fugitive, with a bit of The Bourne Identity in there. It had some potential IMO.

I read the writers and producers got hosed by ABC on this one. They had already shot 6 episodes and were preparing to shoot episode 7,8 when ABC called and reduced the order to 8 episodes. I believe they had constructed an 13 episode arc and had scripts prepared up to episode 9. Thus, they had only a few weeks to re-write 7 episodes of material into 2 episodes....I think the cast and crew of Traveler got screwed big time. Plus, dumping the show as summer burnoff didn't help them either.

I'm really pissed then if they could have wrapped it up in 5 additional episodes.

This was a show that I wanted to watch when I heard about it last fall, but to tell you truth, I didn't even realize it had starting airing until I read this thread.

Well that just SUCKS.

I really dug this show. Cool plot, good characters (though the "agent is really bad" thing was predictable), awesome in HD/5.1.

And a lame cliffhanger ending to the whole thing. Waste of time on a great show that was never given a chance.

Nice.

Wow--hadn't realized it was DOA. I thoroughly enjoyed this show and am very upset it won't be back.

Seems to be happening a lot lately. The problem is, it makes viewers like us less apt to be loyal to shows now, especially new ones.

Good answer. But while I agree with his statement that we contribute to a show's cancellation when we don't watch them because of fear of cancellation, I really don't think this is the public's fault. If networks would give shows good chances, we wouldn't have this fear in the first place.

I think there are shows that can be labeled as "sure things" and others that are "iffy." You mentioned that you refused to watch Heroes because of this fear, but if there was any drama that premiered last fall that was a "sure thing" for a full season, it was definitely Heroes. It was in an awesome timeslot, and NBC promoted the heck out of it. Traveler on the other hand, was essentially dumped to the summer and even ABC's President said that didn't care to support the show and I think that was the nail in the coffin.
