The Bronx is Burning 8-part mini-series on ESPN
Debuts Monday at 10pm on ESPN and will probably be re-aired a bazillion times during the week. Who's going to check this out? I'm very leary seeing Daniel Sunjata from Rescue Me as Reggie Jackson.
Synopsis:
Debut: An eight-part drama on the 1977 New York Yankees begins with Reggie Jackson (Daniel Sunjata) arriving at spring training after being signed by George Steinbrenner (Oliver Platt) against the wishes of manager Billy Martin (John Turturro). In New York, news breaks of the city's first serial killer in 40 years.

i thought ESPN did a good job (prior to cancelling it) with the production of "Playmakers" a few years ago so I'll probably check this one out due to that. i'll reserve judgment until i actually see it though. the promos are starting to pique my interest more and more every time i see them.

I'll watch it ... I do like Platt and Turturro. Plus I grew up right outside of NYC during this time. So I am interested how they pull together the blackout, son of sam, punk rock etc.

In spite of the fact that Platt is supposedly a major Sox fan, i'm there.

Everything I've heard/read says that Turturro IS Billy Martin. Max Kellerman (whose opinion I kinda respect, even if he does work for the parent company) said he put in the preview DVD and was absolutely unable to turn it off.......

Yeah, my DVR recorded the overrun of the derby...but it looks like its only airing 100 more times on the various ESPN channels before episode 2 hits, so I'll grab it on ESPNHD or ESPN2HD on Wednesday.

Last night's episode was almost all game footage. I really like how they are using the old ABC archive footage - graphics, video, audio, and the openings.
The stuff between Big Stein and Kuhn re: the first ball was funny.
I've been really enjoying the miniseries overall.
