Who else here loves The Simpsons...but absolutely hates Marge centric episodes?

I watch The Simpsons on Sundays when they are new and one of the local channels here shows 2 re runs each day

The Simpsons is probably one of my favorite shows all time BUT

I absolutely HATE Marge centric episodes. I've never liked a single one of them. I barely like the Lisa episodes, but some of them have been ok...but not a single one of the Marge episodes has ever been good or even funny.

Once I realize its centered around Marge I change the channel

END OF RANT

I hear ya. However, even in those episodes they usually have sub-plots running along side which makes the episode still worthwhile and funny (usually).

I've HATED Marge Simpson since the beginning of the series!

She ruins the show for me half the time, and yes I avoid episodes centered around her.

So please, feel free to RANT ON!

Happy 4th Americans

The episode where she becomes addicted to gambling is also classic.

Marge is a brilliant character.

"Music is none of my business".

"An alligator with sunglasses? Now I've seen everything!"

Is that really a Marge episode? If Im remembering correctly a lot of that episode was about Homer being the monorail conductor.

It was a great episode, but as usual (though in this case it ended up being for the best) Marge was sour on the enthusiasm everyone else had.

HUGE Simpsons fan (have all the DVDs, etc...) but Marge & Lisa to a lesser degree do grate on the nerves sometimes.

-The episode where Marge try's to ban or make Itchy & Scratchy not so violent made me want to strangle Marge. It reminded me of the Married With Children issue where that Michigan housewife tried to boycott the show. There is nothing more annoying then a suburban housewife bitching & trying to ban something that they don't even fucking watch in the first place. People like that ruin it for people that actually have a sense of humour. Here's a thought, If you have nothing better to do-Go actually take care of the kids!
Sorry for the rant but it still makes me mad, even through it's been about 18 years since it's happened.

-The Lisa centric episodes arn't as bad as the Marge one's altrough Lisa tends to lean on being a little bit of a "Goodie to shoes".

I like Marge. Her lameness is funny.

If I had to choose, it'd probably be the Lisa episodes that I like the least (especially when she sings).

I don't think the writers know how to write for women.

How about "A Streetcar Named Marge"? That's gotta be a top 10 episode. But in general, you're right - she's probably the least intersting character on the show.

Agreed. The Lisa episodes where she gets political (be it the environment, vegitarian, etc.) grate on my nerves so much.

Homer Episodes bother me as well. Not so much for the fact that it's Homer, but his episodes seem to be the worst written. Most of them seem to be an incoherent mess of scenes and plots that don't make any sense.

The one where Marge gets the boob implants by accident is also pretty funny.

The lisa episode in the first season where she meets bleeding Gums Murphy is probably one of the most depressing & unfunny episodes of the simpsons ever made.

I agree that some of the Marge and Lisa episodes are not as good.

I liked the one where Marge became a police offer. Well, at least Homer's line...

I thought it would fun and hijinks, like that movie, Spaceballs. Instead it was boring and depressing like Police Academy. (Not an exact quote, I know, but it something along those lines. One of my all time favorite lines).

Really? I love Marge...

"A spice rack that holds eight spices? Some of them have got to be duplicates...OR-E-GANO? What the hell?" Haha, I love it...

It is, but I do love the homer/Bart boxing video game subplot.

The one where Marge gets a job at the power plant, and Burns falls for her is an absolute classic, and one of my favorite Simpsons ever.

I think the problem with Marge is that her character is the most limited to storyline possibilities by the sheer fact she's a stay-at-home mom with a bland worldview. Homer is stupidly adventurous, Bart is mischievous, and Lisa is idealistic. And they all have jobs/friends/school that give the writers additional excuses to get them into storylines. But Marge sort of gets stuck with the limited setting AND the least exciting personality trait, and so she gets the same types of storylines just to find an excuse to get her out of the house: Marge gets a new hobby, Marge gets a job, Marge is wooed by another man, Marge gets pissed at something and becomes an activist...
