The new D10 satellite still hasn't moved into its broadcasting position yet. It is currently in its "testing" position that it has been in for at least a couple weeks. The date people keep hearing from CSR's is the 19th.

Will you need the 5LMB dish? I currently have the 3LMB dish and get the HD package, just dont get the Locals in HD. Alright because they only offer a couple in HD here.

It sounds like the HD Access rate will remain the same. However, there is going to be a new package called HD Extras for $5/month. This will cover some of the HD channels that exist today that don't have a corresponding SD channel (e.g. UHD, HDNet).

If you currently have HD Access, you won't need to pay the additional rate to continue to get these channels. For new subscribers, looks like you will need to pay $5/month more to get these 5 or 6 additional channels.

I don't know...I'm happy to finally be getting a pile of HD channels, but 80% of the shows I regularly watch will still be on local channels. Those people are worse than little kids on Christmas eve.

I finally made the jump today. I'll be upgrading from SD service to HD service. It only took 2 calls, but I got the HD DVR for $19.95, new dish, multiswitch, install and $10 off my service for 6 months.

It will be nice to finally see something in HD on my 56" 1080p set I've had for 10 months besides HD DVDs and crappy OTA.

If you are in the city limits and aren't getting a good signal, there is probably something wrong with your setup. I've got Chehalem Mountain in between me and the towers, and I still get ABC + CBS perfectly, and NBC + Fox decently.

BTW, CBS, PBS, and CW are not available in HD from DirecTV for us.

Well, if you're going to press the issue, then yes, this probably is something wrong with my setup. I'm in Beaverton and only 6 miles from the towers. I was told that a decent indoor antenna should be more than adequate. I went through 3 and finally ended up with one of those Silver Sensor antennas (I think that's what it was called )

Anyway, I've got it setup behind my TV in the corner of the room on the first floor. It is on the east corner of my house and the towers are pretty much due east from my house according to AntennaWeb.com. I get NBC really well. Right now I'm getting CW really well, but it drops out from time to time if the antenna if moved a fraction of an inch. OPB, Fox and 49 come in pretty well I think (not sure since I really don't watch them much). I have a very hard time getting ABC and CBS. I don't understand why since the towers are all in the same place more or less.

I know I need to get my antenna higher, but I've not messed with it. Up till now I just used my DirecTiVo for 99% of my viewing. Even though it was SD service, it was more convenient to me to TiVo my shows than find the time to watch them live. Now that I'll have the ability to record OTA HD, I'll probably look into the problem and see what I can do about it. I'm not really sure why I can't seem to get great reception. Perhaps because there's a bunch of 2 story homes between my antenna and towers?

I was thinking of asking the installer on Monday about it. Maybe I can get him to run a line from where our dish is to inside. Then I could put something outside next to the dish. The dish is just on the other side of the wall from the TV, but from it's location, I can look directly at the towers. Of course I'll have to get some sort of antenna for outside if I go that route.

So yes, I know OTA should be better than a satellite signal. I just need to put a little more effort into my setup. And now that I have good incentive to do so, I will.

If you are only six miles, you could be suffering from too much signal rather than too little signal. This is especially true if you are using an HR10-250. The HR10-250 is notoriously susceptible to too much signal. Radio Shack has a variable attenuator that you could try. They're only $10 or so, last I checked.

I don't think it's a case of too much signal. Last night, just for kicks, I moved the antenna outside to our patio. I was getting 8-9 bars (out of ten) on every single channel. The picture was rock solid.

There's something funky going on because everyone I've spoken with says at that distance I shouldn't have any problems at all.

Unless I can find a solution before Monday to solve this issue, I'm just going to ask the installer to run a third line from the dish and mount a small antenna under the patio roof next to the dish.

I have a feeling this is getting close now... have a 97 signal strength on 103b transponder 11.

Cannot. Wait. For. More. Channels.

Well, the 19th could be pushed up. Supposedly 15 of the 16 transponders are lit. Could mean the rumors of a super announcement and launch during the Emmy's is true.
