I wonder if they could even do that. I would figure the contract would be done via the NFL, and the NFL doesn't want to lose viewers.

Good point. NFL could tighten the screws too if they thought a lot of their viewers wouldn't be able to see games. CBS is a much more important partner for them than DTV.

Yep. Sunday Ticket is a deal between the NFL and DTV.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

I was hoping when I opened this thread for the CBS dispute to end

Missed the Colbert shows with Jake Gyllenhaal and I think the Code finale aired during that time

If it did not end this week it would have been 3 weeks.

They should let everyone have the CBS LA and NY Feeds for free to make up for this.

I think KRON Is part of Nexstar but since they lost their NBC affiliate in the early 2000's and that is a channel you won't miss.

It looks like Directv is not going to put up the shows and episodes that aired during the dispute on demand

Nexstar dispute over!!!

After an eight-week blackout, access to Nexstar stations is being restored to DirecTV and AT&T U-verse subscribers.

In a joint statement Thursday, AT&T and Nexstar said they reached a new multiyear deal that allows the 120 stations, which include ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC affiliate stations, to return on DirecTV, AT&T TV and U-verse platforms.

The stations went dark at 11:59 p.m. local time July 3 after Nexstar and AT&T were unable to reach an agreement.

“Our customers want more choice and value and we are pleased to deliver that through this new agreement with Nexstar and its many local stations,” Rob Thun, AT&T Communications senior vice president of content and programming, said in the statement.

The companies did not disclose financial terms of the deal and said they regretted the inconvenience.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

A saw a promo today on my local ABC affiliate (KABC 7 Los Angeles) that it could be pulled from DirecTV along with ESPN and the other Disney owned channels due to this pending carriage dispute.

The 5-year deal reportedly expires at the end of the month.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

I will pull the plug immediately on DTV of they pull ESPN. Going to anyway within 6 months but this will accelerate the timeline.

That happens with cable providers, too. These things can really get stupid.

It's just a money issue; it's how capitalism works.

I've had Comcast nonstop since 1984 and not once has there been any dispute or threat of losing channels. Broadcast and cable viewers see the scrolls but they're not directed at us so we just laugh at satellite customers.

It's probable that they just never affected channels you care about (or Comcast is overcharging you so much that they just pay whatever to the channels and laugh their way to the bank). I'm sure, for instance, they've changed channel tiers many many times since you've been a subscriber to combat increased costs. There's nothing inherent about satellite customers that get carriage disputes more than a cable company would, other than (before the mergers at least) tv being the main source of income for them so maybe they fight harder.

Don't know if still true, cable was required by law to carry all broadcast channels. Only changes I've seen is that WGN and TBS used to be in the basic package (2-13) and are now in a different tier, replaced by new broadcast channels. All the newer broadcast piggyback channels(MeTV, Antenna, Cozi, Laff, etc.) are bunched together at 247-251 on the lineup but still basic. Local baseball used to be broadcast but is now FOX and is a higher tier. The original ESPN is basic.
I get every channel, plus HBO, Cinemax, Starz, Encore, Showtime for about $60 including fees. Includes two HD boxes with DVR. Only thing I don't get is Epix and the sports packages that give you every game being played.

Comcast has certainly had carriage disputes, usually on sports channels. Just Google "Comcast carriage disputes"

This has nothing to do with Disney + Disney + doesn't even have live TV.

The contract expires this month and it's a fight over rights costs and re-transmission fees.
