As much as I love my Series 3 TiVo, I've always been pretty annoyed that it's completely focused on being a Cable-only receiver.
With this new announcement, I hope those rumors of a new DirecTV/TiVo box come true. -pray- |

My biggest choice will be whether to switch from Showtime to Starz again I too have trouble watching any non hd programs at this moment, esp on my 61" tv... I seroisly thing DTV is through with tivo, the new HD-DVRs are nice, a love the commercial scan button |
Are there any plans for Dish expanding their HD lineup anytime soon to compete with this?

TiVo Inc. said on Monday it sees an improved relationship with DirecTV Group after the satellite television provider is taken over by media mogul John Malone's Liberty Media Corp. TiVo Chief Executive Tom Rogers said the outcome would be "positive" once the $11 billion exchange of cash and assets between Malone and Rupert Murdoch's News Corp is completed. News Corp currently owns a controlling stake in DirecTV and the deal to exchange its stake and other assets is expected to close later this year. DirecTV said in Aug. 2005 that it would stop marketing TiVo digital video recorders to its customers focusing on boxes made by its News Corp sister company NDS. |
If I could get an HD TiVo I'd switch to DirecTV in a heartbeat.

Some good channels, but when oh when are we going to get Turner Classic Movies in HD?
|
Sadly the one new channel that may finally push me to satellite over cable is the Big Ten Network in HD. I'll wait and see how this all pans out first.

OK, crazy question...does anyone know where at in the sky this bird is going to launch? :) When my installer came out, he was just BARELY able to get me a good enough view of the southern sky to get my service going (this was a couple of months ago). One of the HD satellites is the one that I was barely able to squeeze in - a few feet more to the west and a giant tree would've blocked it.
Any ideas? |
Here's what I currently get with Brighthouse. Maybe a switch will be worth it once most of the channels start coming through.
HD Sports 1 (Devil Rays/Magic/Lightning) HD Sports 2 (Devil Rays/Magic/Lightning) PBS HD/The Florida Channel NBC HD CBS HD ABC HD Fox HD CW HD MoreTV HD Discovery HD Theater TNT HD A&E HD MHD (Music HD) Versus HD / Golf Channel HD (Split Channel) HBO HD Showtime HD ESPNHD ESPN2HD MOJO HDNet HDNet Movies Universal HD HD Movies On Demand HD Special Events On Demand |
FX in HD=awesome & about time.
Good for DirecTV. |

I look at it like this I get the HD package (which doesnt include premium channels), Im also getting HBO and Showtime which I pay for seperately a month, by doing that, we get those in HD for free without paying extra... I look at the 10 bucks as cost of some of the new HD dedicated channels such as HDnet, all these new HD channels in the fall are upgrades of what we already shell out tons of money for in the first place... we shouldnt have to pay for them twice

Yeah, me too. I've been holding out for as long as I can. I knew this day would come eventually when I would have to upgrade. Does anyone know of any deals out there? Or what is the normal price for hardware and monthly lease fee nowadays? |
with a 2 year commitment you should be able to get it free.
I know this cos my one is dying, (hr20-700) and they are making pay for a new one, but not if I do the 2 year commitment. It's a POS by the way. Mrs BDB hates it with a passion. I use the hr10-250 as a backup |

Along with the Wire you are missing two of the best shows on TV. |
Stupid wire not committing to HD!! the only show that I watch that is not HD apart form the real world, and the jon stewart show.

It's great that we're getting more HD channels soon and I'm thrilled, but... where are the "150 channels" in HD that DirecTV keeps advertising all over the place? What a load of crap. Not to mention it seems like this keeps getting pushed back. The first I heard of it it was supposed to be in Spring, then July... now September.
I'll reiterate someone else's post - I'll believe it when I see it. |
i would think that the 150 channels refers to the network HD feeds.

However, the titles usually say NATIONAL HD channels, which to me, means stations like UHD, HDNET, etc., not the local Tulsa NBC feed. Frankly, I am pulling for my local provider to get HDNET and HDMOVIES. We did just get AEHD and NGHD, so that was nice. |

You can also watch the launch of D10 tonight sometime (not sure of the time) on channel 570. |
