Friday Night Lights - "Seeing Other People" (11/30/2007)

Spoiler:

OPEN RELATIONSHIPS? –Brian “Smash” Williams (Gaius Charles) goes on his first recruiting trip that lives up to everything he hoped for until an unexpected incident takes place at the end that will change his mind about the school. Matt Saracen (Zachary Gilford) asks his cheerleader girlfriend for an open relationship, but is there another girl? Meanwhile, emotions escalate in the Taylor family as Tami (Connie Britton) explodes on a young teacher that she feels is getting too close to Julie (Aimee Teegarden), while Eric (Kyle Chandler) explodes on Tami about her relationship with a different associate of theirs at the school. Tyra (Adrianne Palicki) is asked by her former attacker’s brother to meet in person and make amends, but afraid to face him, Landry (Jesse Plemons) goes in her place.

Why does it feel like I haven't seen a new episode in almost a month?

Excited for a new episode!

So Riggins desperately wants forgiveness and to be let back on the football team. He proves this by skipping school and going drinking and hunting. Shouldn't he be expelled by now? His making it back on the team when he doesn't even attend class is a joke.

Julie's recent growth spurt is making it hard for her to walk. I wished the teacher would have called Tami "Butchie".

Matt is living a charmed life.

Smash getting chased by the huge player after trying to mack on the girlfriend made me LOL, and then Matt ends up driving down in his POS to pick up Smash, loving the irony.

Tim is teflon, nothing sticks to him.

I have to wonder if Lyla would have given Landry the same advice if she knew his secret.

Oh, man. I loved and want to love this show so much. But this was a ridiculous episode. Instead of quietly wrapping up crazy storylines, they expanded them and added a few more.

Yeah, I gotta say, the writing has just been ridiculous this season. The cops set up a meeting for Tyra and the brother of her rapist...in a dark, deserted restaurant. Sure.

And Tami's character has just gotten stupid all of a sudden. She's going to accuse the teacher of sexual intentions with her daughter just inside an open doorway with a hallway full of his own students. Yeah, okay.

I love this show, based mostly on the brilliant first season, but what the hell happened to the smart writing?

I was hoping he'd tell her he was going to bone Julie and break her jaw.

Other then Matt picking up Smash it wasn't a very good episode.

I agree completely. With the first season, all (or at least the vast majority) of the situations just seemed genuine, and that has completely vanished. The Julie/ teacher development and the Landry story just scream laziness, like they thought it up on the drive to work that morning before the development meeting.

The Landry plot is getting tiresome, it's sad they tied a great character down with it.

The Julie / Teacher plot is a little silly, but it's not at all unheard of.

I enjoyed this week's episode. Sure, Landry's plot has overstayed its welcome, but Riggins' apology to the team more than made up for it -- great scene that was.

The past Street-free episodes have been great. Only 2 minutes of bible-pounding Lyla as well.

We need more Matt/Smash scenes. Their banter is great.

Too bad Matt's an idiot when it comes to women. Ok, I get rejecting Julie since she did dump him for that Swedish stoner. But dropping Kim Smith for that chick from One Tree Hill?!

I wonder if the actress who plays Julie got them done over the summer, She didn't look like that last season.

I was with CT and his little speech right up until he made that flippant comment about her not paying enough attention to the family... this from a man who was gone for 8-9 months.

I hope Smash remembered to grab his wallet like he did his cell phone before he left. :P

Gotta give snaps to Riggins.. he'll drink himself to death.. but draws the line at Meth.
Love how he got back on the team in true Riggins style.
