Of course you know by now, HBO has moved this to Monday. Can't wait

Plot Summary
Spoiler:
Season Two premiere. In the aftermath of her "Mother of the Year" exposure at the Governor's mansion, Barb retreats into her own world, leaving Nicki and Margene to take up the slack. Hell-bent on learning who betrayed the family, Bill gathers evidence against Home Plus employee Wendy, and gives Don an ultimatum to get rid of her. Having nearly succumbed to Wanda's poisoning, Alby urges Roman to take revenge against Joey and Bill. Continuing to track suspects, Bill makes dinner plans with neighbors Carl and Pam Martin, but Barb wants no part in the evening. Meanwhile, Wanda faces an inquisition at Juniper Creek, and Joey feels the squeeze from Roman, despite Bill's assurances that Roman will drop his charges in the wake of a state investigation. At home, Sarah meets an older suitor named Scott at an ex-Mormon meeting. (TVMA) ()

Can't wait! Probably my second favorite HBO show now (after The Wire).

Giantrobo 06-11-07 09:06 AM

I started a thread on this but I guess I started it too early. In my defense I was trying to give everyone an early "heads up" for the show's return. Plus I commented on the cool promo they were showing when I posted so I stand by my early post. :p

Dignam 06-11-07 09:33 AM

Margene and her peach better not be something shot just for the promo..

"God only knows what I'd be without you..."

I can't wait to see how they recover from last season's finale!

wildman1037 06-11-07 10:00 AM

I'll be tuned in as well. After the disappointing Soprano's season finale, I'm looking forward to an entertaining night for a change.

Any thoughts?

I'm glad they didn't drag out the "Barb leaving" storyline for half the year. I wonder what deals Roman is going to try to make with the board now that he thinks he has Joey's vote.

BDB 06-11-07 11:51 PM

Enjoyed it, agree that I'm glad barb is back, the dinner was great with the neigbhbours.

We had a squabble.

Loved seeing The Hummer chasing down the chick from home plus. that was hilarious.

Shannon Nutt 06-12-07 07:15 AM

The phone conversation between the wives was the best part of the episode. When they said "don't throw us out with the bathwater", the look on Bill Paxton's face was classic.

I've never watched an entire episode, just a few minutes here and there. At the risk of sounding like a horny teenager...has there ever been any nudity?

I agree... I told my wife, that if the whole, "Barb being gone and the other girls trying to convince her to comeback goes on too long, Im out." The relationship between the 3 wives is the best part of the show.

DAMNIT, I forgot to record this last night. When does it re-air?

Occasionally one has to suffer through a shot of Bill Paxton's ass.

There really isn't a lot of nudity in the series.

PatrickG, I'm sure it will re-air tonight on HBO2. Check HBO's site and it should list all the re-airings which I'm sure will be frequent.

aktick 06-12-07 08:58 AM

Enjoyed the ep.

Also liked the Veronica Mars reunion (well, Mack wasn't in the ep, but in the "previously on"), with Mack (Heather...Tina Majorino), Lilly (Sarah), and I think Beav (wasn't he Don's son?).

DAMN, that Roman gets on a guys nerves. :p

Michael Ballack 06-12-07 10:24 AM

I have to admit that it was hard to watch this episode as I still have a little bit of a post Sopranos hang over.

kantonburg 06-12-07 11:28 AM

My wife and I watched this for the first time last night. I have no earthly idea whats going on. Anyone care to recap cliff notes style or point me to a blog or something that will catch me up?

BDB 06-12-07 11:53 AM

hmm.. where to start..

Bill is married to Barb, Nikki and Margie, they live in the 3 houses that are attached. from the front they look like normal houses. But in back there are no fences.

Bill is a polygamist who grew up on the compound, and while he believes in the values, he likes his life where it is, and is not up for living on a compound.

It is then a war of sorts btw Bill, and Roman. Roman is the self proclaimed prophet, but iirc Bill should really be the leader of the UEB. Something to do with Roman and his crowd kicking out Bill's dad.

now nikki is roman's daughter.

And all last season Bill was trying to get onto the UEB Council so he could Know what is going on.

Barb is a teacher, so she works during the day as does Bill, he owns the Home Plus stores. Barb was nominated by one of her kids for mother of the year, and she won, but as she was being presented the award someone, most likely roman let it be known that she was a polygamist.

Hence all the running around this episode trying to find out who shopped them in.

I'd advise renting the 1st season on dvd.

To expand a bit further:

Bill's maternal grandfather was the original leader of the UEB and prophet, and has the ancestory to date back to early Mormon or the UEB - Roman and his group got him kicked out. Bill should be the leader of the UEB.

Bill was ran out of the compound (like many young men in these compounds) by Roman and crew when he was around 13-15 years old.

Barb had cancer and because of this Bill had to go to Roman for help with his store and part of the bargain was him marry Nikki. We do not know the details of any of this deal.

The UEB owns 10-15% of the 1st Home Plus, and that is all Bill was giving Roman, nothing from any of the new stores. Roman had other ideas. This is what started the war.

BDB 06-12-07 12:14 PM

yeah that too :) Good expansion.

Timber 06-12-07 12:28 PM

I really don't know much about the polygamist lifestyle but there portrayal of Bill's family seems so realistic to me. On the other hand the whole UEB compound also seems like something that's really out there in Utah. I really like the whole concept and execution of this show.

Only from Bill Paxton and Chloe Sevigny

Red Dog 06-12-07 03:04 PM

It was hard to remember the S1 stuff even with the previously-on.

 at Bill's partner this episode.

Yeah, it's a wonderful show. The UEB stuff seems to be dead-on from what I read in Under The Banner Of Heaven (an amazingly detailed look at fundamental Mormon life; go rent it from the library).

I liked the episode, though I sort of forgot how slow these episodes are paced. Not a lot of Roman this one, but I expect to see him more in upcoming shows. I'm surprised that Bill doesn't have Roman at the top of his suspect list, with their history and all.

It's still a fun show and very well acted. I hope the ratings are pretty good on Mondays and that it gets a good long run. It sure doesn't look like there are many other great dramas (besides The Wire) in HBO's immediate future.

Suffer?!?! BITE YOUR TONGUE!

Since the teens are basically getting sexually active, I'd expect to see more nudity this season. Was there really no nudity from Ginnifer Goodwin (Margene) last season?

Overall it was a really good season opener - though as others complained, it has been over a year since last season's finale, and I've lost track of a lot of things (totally spaced on that Wanda poisoning Alby thing).

Now clear this up for mean anyone versed in polygamy laws - So what legal action can be taken against Bill? Basically the state only acknowledges his marriage to Barb. If he wants to have two "mistresses" next door with whom he has "bastard" children (as far as the state is concerned), that isn't illegal. As the Attorney General said, as long as they're not claiming welfare or being pedophiles the state doesn't care. So now, all of Bill's kids could be covered under his health insurance (since regardless of the legality of their parents' relationship the ARE his kids), but he'd just need additional "riders" to cover Margie and Nikki. I don't see what Barb is so freaked out about barring the social stimga associated with the situation.

The episode recaps on HBO's website are pretty damn "blow by blow" in my opinion. In fact, I need to go back to S1 myself to straighten out several points I've forgetten since last season.

joefrog91 06-13-07 08:57 AM

Great episode. I just watched the replay last night. I believe more people will find out about Bill's lifestyle and it will cause problems with his stores. I know that's not much of a prediction given the previews, but I believe his family will come out on top in the end. I can't imagine the series ending with the downfall of Bill and his family. I'm surprised about the oldest daughter going to that support group. I thought she was okay with the lifestyle.
