I thought the finale was good. The ending was interesting and suspenseful. Does Tony make it and just live the rest of his life worrying about everyone that walks through a door? Or was it from Tony's point of view and the cut to black was the trucker guy turning around and shooting him? The ending is up to you.

Actually, I like that interpretation.

I loved the ending, and yes, freely admit to wanting to see a more "tied up" conclusion, but it suddenly cutting to black hit me like a ton of bricks. And the more I think about it, the more I enjoyed it, and now think it was the only "appropriate" way to go out.

I mean, what did you want? Most people wanted to Phil to get his, and he did...spectacularly. Any way Chase ended it, people were bound to complain, so leave it to him to go for the most unexpected ending.

I think I'm almost starting to take some kind of perverse pleasure in the fact that so many people here are hating it.

Lloyd Kaufman would love what happened to Phil.

I didnt think about Agent Harris rooting for "his" team, and I actually like that... I thought of it more of a, "now we got him". But I like that take on it. Ok there is at least one more thing I enjoyed about the ending then.

I think Chase showed the emptiness and atrociousness of his characters' lives. Tony has to constantly watch over his shoulder and there's an 80-90 percent chance he's going to trial. AJ's a sellout. Meadow, who wants to help the little people v the big bad gov't, is a sellout (drives a fancy car, takes a $170k/year job, is about to marry the son of a gangster, and of course, is the daughter of a notorious, murdering gangster), Carmella's a hypocritical sellout. They meet at a nice little old-fashioned family restaurant in a nice cozy booth when the fact is they are the least close family in the world.

That sir, is a great interpretation (and I'm pissed I didn't see it).

Minus 10 points for having to interpret.

Build something up and not have a payoff. That's exactly what I was expecting, It's the only thing this has done the last few years.
Agreed. I really wish I had trusted my earlier judgment and given up on the Sopranos years ago. I would not have missed much. I completely agree with everyone else about the Six Feet Under finale being the best ending ever.

I wouldn't have had a problem with a non-ending. Hell I was EXPECTING a non-ending. But this wasn't even a non ending. It was a "What the hell? Freakin' Comcast! I can't believe the cable box... wait, what? It's over? That was the last shot? A jerky jump cut and then black for 30 seconds? I thought the cable went out."

I just think it's cute how Chase is just a creator/writer/director of a popular TV series until after this finale.

Now he's suddenly an "artist."

The end being Tony's perception would seem like the most plausible explanation so far...except that there were LOADS of storylines throughout the series which occurred without Tony being able to "see" what was going on--right up to Meadow having trouble parallel-parking.

Unless, of course, someone wants to argue that all of those events were imagined by Tony. That would take some explaining.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....

The fade to black is a good metaphor for what this series has been for awhile now...a steaming piece of crap. The finale cemented what has been obvious for awhile now.

I've been reading your unabashed comments about Chase in this thread and I've come to the following conclusion:

You are giving Chase way, way, WAY too much credit.

How sad that you were forced to watch season after season of such a crappy show. There certainly is nothing else you could have been doing with that hour of your life, right?

Damn, a friend just pointed out to me. Back when Tony and Bobby were talking in the boat, they talked about "what happens when you die?" and the response was "nothing, it just goes black."

I'm gonna have to go back and rewatch that episode to see if that's exactly what was said but if it was....damn that's awesome foreshadowing.

Six Feet Under still has the best series finale. Ever.

I grew up in Bloomfield, NJ where that last scene was shot. Holsten's has been there forever. I was laughing at Meadow parking that car.. not so much as to the way she was doing it.. just that she was able to find a parking space at all on that busy corner is laughable.
