Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip - "Breaking News" - 5/31/07

Spoiler:
Jordan is rushed to the hospital, while Harriet has big news for Matt. Also, Matt's pill popping becomes known.

GuessWho 05-31-07 06:53 AM

So it's new? My DVR thinks it's a rerun and wasn't set to record it. I'll have to overrride that.

WallyOPD 05-31-07 09:02 AM

Thanks GuessWho, I just checked mine and it's listed as a repeat too. I'm planning to watch it live anyway but just in case I set up a manual recording.

rfduncan 05-31-07 10:01 PM

Wow. Kind of an emotional ending. Had it been on as scheduled at the end of February sweeps, I'd have been biting my nails. What a crappy way to end the show. :(

BTW - why was Jenna Fisher only on as host for the good night spot?

GuessWho 05-31-07 10:04 PM

"Pam" and "Dawn" on the same show :)

Spicollidriver1 05-31-07 10:17 PM

This was a decent episode but the end is the only thing that turned it around.

And much like last week with having Allison Janney on without Bradley Whitford, it totally went to waste :(

I'm torn over this episode, I thought the cast did a great job with it, I just wish I cared more about the storylines

The ending was good, although I think it would have had a better impact if Sorkin hadn't telegraphed it in the first five minutes ("Tom's parents called. They haven't heard from his brother").

And I guess I'm going to hell, because I laughed at Jordan's "He's got an axe!" line.

Goldberg74 05-31-07 11:42 PM

Solid ep. Too bad it didn't air when it was supposed to.

Dash 06-01-07 01:04 AM

I liked this one alot too. It really is too bad that this didnt go on before the sweeps. I think it could have given the show a better chance. But then again if people were not watching it in the 1st place they wouldnt know to watch it now...

sjrab16 06-01-07 01:06 AM

Agree with what you all have said, this was a really good episode and if there were more like this at the beginning we could be talking about stuff that might happen in the second season.

Timber 06-01-07 10:55 AM

God I love Kari Matchett.

It's like night and say between this week and last week. I could barely get through last weeks and this weeks I don't want to end. Now I'm actually sad that the show is ending.

Is it possible to score 210 on a legit IQ test?

You can't score 210 on an IQ test anymore, I believe. they've changed the scales and narrowed the high end.

slop101 06-01-07 11:50 AM

bah - I wasn't aware of the episode, and my DVR missed it...

She will be in Heartland, which is starting up soon on TNT.

lotsofdvds 06-01-07 01:01 PM

At 10 p.m., a "Shark" rerun bit off a 6.5/12 for CBS. The final minutes of the Spelling Bee and a "Grey's Anatomy" repeat averaged 3.8/6 for ABC, while "Studio 60" earned a 2.9/5 for NBC.

Deftones 06-01-07 01:08 PM

Man, what a difference a week makes. I thought this was right up there with one of the best episodes of the season. After last week I had given up hope, but this one redeemed the show a bit.

rfduncan 06-01-07 01:54 PM

I was getting ready to delete my season pass for this cleaning up my Tivo and saw that there is ANOTHER new episode airing next Thursday - "K & R". :D:up:

lotsofdvds 06-01-07 11:33 PM

My DVR says that "K&R" is part one of three. So it looks like we'll get a three episode arc before the finale, which supposedly will wrap things up.

BDB 06-02-07 01:07 PM

Yay, liked this episode a lot, don't like the matt on drugs angle though. Tom is in a tough spot. seeing your brother on tv like that.

Live from Studio City!

I know I'm a broken record in these threads... but this show being cancelled is criminal.

Chaza 06-04-07 01:48 AM

I enjoy the show, but I can understand why it's been cancelled. Shit sketches, one guy writing 60 or so minutes of comedy every week (not possible), and lots of other predictable shit. Plus Harriet is horrible as an actor and a character. I enjoyed this episode though, Lisa Miller from 24 is much better than Harriet.

Matt isn't the only writer. There are three other staff writers and the cast has written sketches as well.

Harriet's character is annoying as hell though. One of the show's fatal flaws was spending too much time on her and Matt. As an undercurrent theme throughout the episodes it would have been fine, but there was just too much Harriet.
