Family Guy and Star Wars Season 5

This should be good
http://www.dose.ca/tv/story.html?id=...2439a3&k=92204

Family Guy to Parody Star Wars for Season 5 PremiereAddi StewartPublished: Monday, May 28, 2007Fox's edgy cartoon Family Guy will completely re-enact key scenes and narrative from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope during its hour-long season premiere in September. LucasFilm has officially granted permission to Seth MacFarlane's popular series to spoof the sci-fi originator, and the crude TV show creator probably couldn't be happier about the opportunity. MacFarlane was personally involved in the efforts to convince the notoriously reclusive and infringement-sensitive mega-director to green-light the idea, an executive from 20th Century Fox told Variety.

In the spoof, Chris Griffin will play Luke Skywalker, Brian Griffin will play Chewbacca, Lois Griffin will play Princess Leia, Peter Griffin will play Hans Solo and, in a coup of cartoon crossover casting genius, Stewie Griffin will play Darth Vader. Additionally, R2-D2 will be played by Cleveland and Obi Wan Kenobi will be played by Old Man Herbert. Finally, in a role ripe with sexual innuendo, Peter's perverted neighbour, Quagmire, will play C-3PO, Hollywood's first gay robot.

Family Guy has been known to pay homage and/or parody Star Wars in a variety of ways in past seasons, thus, it looks like the "Dark Side of the Force" has triumphantly claimed a victory for MacFarlane. Since the bitterly satirical writers of Family Guy have been given the rare opportunity to skewer the enormous saga created by Star Wars, this unprecedented collaboration seems to have immense potential. Let's count how many phallic lightsaber jokes MacFarlane can fit into one episode.

You don't need permission to parody something. Seth has used Star Wars throughout the entire series. Why ask now? Having permission kinda ruins the fun and danger of it.

Whoa! No one's ever done a Star Wars parody before. How cutting edge!

Well it sounds like the entire hour (45 min?) will be select scenes of the movie. If you recall, there was a recent case involving a certain Ms. Burnett, so I'm sure they'd like to avoid something similar.

It's one thing to spoof something for a 15 second gag, but to have your entire episode revolve around re-imaging something is quite different.

You know what? They already have. They could just make a clip-show, stringing together all the Star Wars references they've already done, and they'd have this episode.

That's not a press release, and it says "during its hour-long season premiere in September."

The same guy who typed "Hans Solo".

I've read that Robot Chicken is doing a special Star Wars episode too (and Mark Hamill and George Lucas will do some voiceover work for the show).

I too was thinking that as well. The Simpsons has parodied Star Wars before but they didn't make a whole fucking episode about it!
It just confirms that like the other Seth creation, American Dad, Family Guy is the worst animation show ever. period.

You might. There's never been a carte blanche ruling that all parodies are okay. All there's been are decisions allowing certain parodies based on the circumstances. But its entirely possible to take too much or some combination of the fair use factors to trigger copyright infringement.

Plus it avoids any legal fees should a lawsuit arise, even if the lawsuit loses.

I just read in TV Guide that Robot Chicken is doing something similar in an upcoming special.

funny shit if you ask me...not sure if the gimic could hold up for the entire 45min episode though. i guess we'll find out in the fall.
