Queen gives House an OBE

BRITISH actor Hugh Laurie, best known for his starring role in the US drama House, was at Buckingham Palace today to collect an honour from Queen Elizabeth II.

Laurie was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) after royal officials revealed in December that he had been given the award for his acting achievements.

The 47-year-old star won a Golden Globe and has been Emmy-nominated for his role as an ill-mannered medic in the hugely-successful House.

He first found fame in Britain alongside comedy partner Stephen Fry in the 1980s sketch series A Bit Of Fry and Laurie and the Blackadder comedy series.

He also starred alongside Fry in television adaptations of P. G. Wodehouse's Jeeves and Wooster stories, about a wealthy man-about-town and his servant.

Laurie has also starred in films including Maybe Baby, Stuart Little and Sense and Sensibility.

I know American audiences mainly know Hugh Laurie as House, but any follower of British TV over the last couple of decades know Hugh has an impressive body of work in England. Personally i thought he was amazing in the Blackadder series.

Everytime I watch one of my "A Bit of Fry & Laurie" or "Blackadder" videos, I wonder how many of the Joe SixPack fans of "House" don't even realize that Hugh is British...or a comedian!

And here I was, wondering how listening to the Freddie Mercury fronted band would give someone's living area an out of body experience.
