Close - a policedog.

As for this week's ep, I thought it was better than the last couple weeks, but that's not saying much IMO.

I seriously was debating giving up on ever watching Simpsons again during tonight's episode. I don't know how much more I can take.

"You've just been Apu'd!"

That and the Nappian bird crapping in the guys mouth were the best moments in another phoned in episode.

"NUTMEAT!" That line and Moe's double sided business card were the best parts.

Agree with the "better than the last couple weeks".

There's no way I'm ever giving up on this show regardless of the route it takes, but it doesn't feel like there's a lot of effort anymore.

Eh... seems like even moreso than ever, The Simpsons is all about "what wacky new job will Homer get this week?" Hadn't watched it much lately, and this one didn't convince me otherwise.

Yeah, that was a long way to go just for Homer to be a fireman.

But the episode did have some good laughs, and a pretty good line out of Marge:
"Growing up means giving up the things that make you happy."

This was a solid episode - but it was a bit of a stretch for him to join the fire department

I thought it would have been funnier - If he wanted to join the department once he found out that firehouses have pool tables, bars, big screen tv's, etc. That would have been funnier

great episode.

the best quotes, imo

Firefighter: You've horribly injured the whole fire department!
Homer: Who are you, a travel agent? 'Cause you're sending me on a guilt trip!
Firefighter: Sorry
----------------------------------

Homer: (Dazed) Zombie montage.

-----------------------------------
Homer: Oh, why must I have 3 kids and no money, when I can have no kids and 3 money!?

plus... the domino knee pads!!! hahahahaha....

if you didn't like it then you should probably just stop watching The Simpsons

it's a top-tier quality show... one of the few that's actually worth watching these days

one of the biggest, lamest and most untrue mantras of the intarwebs is "The Simpsons used to be so much better in Season ___"

there have been ups and downs, but it is consistently better than 99% of other shows on TV and should be appreciated accordingly

keeping a show at this level of quality for this long is a superhuman feat

i get sick of people downing the show b/c their favorite character didn't get featured or b/c they just decided that they're 'over it'

mad props to Dana Gould for always bringing the funny

it's kind of tradition at this point for the set-up to either make no sense or not be connected to the eventual plot

seems like they take pleasure in crafting the most ridiculous set-ups possible to get that week's protagonist where they need him/her to be for the actual story of the week

Wow, thanks for joining the DVDTalk forum, Dana.

Okay guys, you heard! No more complaining about poor writing, huge logic gaps or retread plots -- we should appreciate the show for how good it was while not remembering specifically when or what made it good. Thanks Big A!

I know that, just my opinion, whenever I see Executive Producer Dana Gould in the credits, were in for a pretty lousy episode.

On a side note: when, oh when, was Dana Gould ever considered funny? The only thing I remember him doing was the voicework for the original Gex videogame on the 3D0. Can anybody throw me a bone here?

I enjoyed his stand up over the years. At his website you can download various performances.

Dana Gould is one of the funniest stand-ups ever and he's been working on The Simpsons for a long, long time. Think he's won two Emmys.

I'm not under any illusion that people will stop complaining at all. Quite the opposite. That's why I expressed my opinion, to counter that one.

*curtsies deeply*

there will ALWAYS be people who talk more about a show than actually watch the show. in that case they just become detached from any kind of real valid commentary and merely repeat what they've seen/heard others say.

plenty of individual Simpsons episodes have sucked over the years but in my personal opinion there has never been any significant decline in the quality of the writing.

in fact the consistency of humor on The Simpsons (in my opinion) is one of strongest streaks in modern Television history. that kind of solid quality and unflagging devotion to sweating the details just always seems to bring out the haters.

*shrug*
