05/03/07 - My Name is Earl - Get A Real Job

Summary:

Earl takes a job working as an appliance salesman, but finds having a "real job" with real co-workers isn't so easy. As Joy's trial approaches, she panics and makes some typical bad choices that affect those around her.

Best Earl Ever!

The smell-o-vision was a nice little gimmick; but parodying one of my favorite movies ever, RUDY, was just hilarious. Awesome how Charles Dutton gave the exact speech almost verbatim to Earl that he gave to Rudy. Then everyone dropping their credit card ala Notre Dame players dropping uniforms on Dan Devine's desk (same actor BTW). Comedy gold in my opinion.

What were we supposed to do for the "Smell-o-vision"? (I saw the numbers, but didn't know I was apparently supposed to pick up a scratch-and-sniff beforehand somewhere.)

This was fantastic although you had to know rudy for it to be extra funny. I had to remind my gf for her to get it. One complaint why no Favreau hes been on the show he could of worked as a Docker on like some work release or something.

Oh man, I woke my wife up I was laughing so hard at that quote and everything after it. I admit, I didn't pick up on the Dutton/Astin Rudy connection until that speech. I always like missing the obvious. Great episode.

What's "Oh, snap..." in Spanish again?

This was a great Earl, but man, did that cologne stink.

And I had to smell it more than once...

Liked it. Loved that they parodied Rudy.

I even said to my self, hey there's Rudy/Samwise. I wonder why they didn't make a big deal about it. Glad they didn't.

"...and whatever you put into your 401K, they'll match it."

"I'm gonna put a puppy in mine!"

Never saw Rudy , but I thought it was still funny.

Biggest laugh was Crabman waking up to that creepy doll peering out from under the covers.

BEST EPISODE EVER! As my secret guilty pleasure Rudy is my favorite movie all time. I have every line memorized and I'm ashamed I didn't see it coming sooner. I didn't even put the coach, Dutton, and Sean together. Just before Dutton started the speech I turned to my son and said, "It would be great if he gave the Rudy speech". And then I started qouting it from Rudy. Seconds later Dutton matched me (almost) word for word.
Coolest ever.
I woke my daughter up and made my wife give me "the look" with my mad cackling.

After seeing Dutton as a "Docker" and the Notre Dame coach as the store manager, the first thought that came to mind was how cool it'd be if they did a Rudy spoof...was glad to see we were on the same page.

I have to go against the grain and say this was probably one of my least favorite episodes of the series. I've seen Rudy once, but it was about ten years ago. So the references were lost on me. It just wasn't funny to me at all. Even the Joy subplot fell flat.

I had the scratch and sniff card, and frankly thought the gimmick was poorly implemented. Other than the cologne gag, the scents just didn't bring any amusement. So what was the point? To promote Oreos, apparently...

With all the obvious Rudy scenes, anyone see the very subtle shout to yes dear?

The Rudy references were lost on me since I never finished watching that movie but even then it was a great episode.

I thought of the scene in Godfather when Crabman woke up to the doll. There was a Shawshank Redemption homage when Earl dropped the appliance and raised his hands to the rainy sky.

Yeah, I caught myself singing along.

Being a Michigan fan, I've never watched Rudy, so the references were lost on me.
