That sucks. It wasn't my favorite show, but I enjoyed it. Hopefully they can put a hurry on Stargate Universe so it can be on soon.

Sucks, even though I can't say I've been very happy with the show lately.

I haven't been too happy with the show lately either but the decision is kinda disappointing.

I've only seen up through season 3, it was good, but never great. Hopefully this paves the way for the Stargate: Universe show and ongoing SG-1 movies.

The worst thing is this kills the possibility of them finally ditching Teyla and turning Atlantis into a very good show.

This is somewhat of a shame. Admittedly I only watched the premier this year and nothing since.

I really feel like this is a failure and a setback to the SG universe and future projects. The idea of Atlantis was good, but the following were some of the problems they never resolved from the start or created for themselves:

1) Teyla. I don't know if it was the writing, acting or a combination, but the character never worked. The character always came across to me as morally righteous and it was annoying.

2) Technology. I firmly believe that suddenly being able to travel to and from Earth was a mistake. Yes there may have been half a season where they had to "wait" a week on some of the ships, but really...

3) Number 2 leads to number 3, which is no sense of danger. Their technological superiority let them overcome the Wraith within 2 seasons. The Wraith were such a shot in the arm as a formidable nemisis after the Goul'd had been taken care of. Plus death was more of a consequence than domination of the galaxy before.

4) Characters. They hardly developed! Sunday (317) may have been the best episode of the series to show what should have been. Unfortunately, I think it was meant as a one-off filler episode. And what of Ford? How do you bring somebody in from the start and not know what to do with him? Also, while Shep has the least amount of complaints from me, I think it would have been good to see more of his backstory and how he struggles to take orders. This was alluded to very much in the premier with the Robert Patrick character, but never followed up with.

What the Stargate universe needs is a show in which the public knows about SGC. I mean, the number of people who know about the project is so high that it's a wonder they can still cover it up, and really don't the people have a right to know that we have a colony in another galaxy, and a fleet of starships? Plus having civilians using the Stargate system would add new dimensions.

Well this sucks. I'm guessing we can blame this at least partially on the success of the two SG-1 dvds. MGM/Sci Fi can now focus on their new SG Universe show while still making extra $$$ with Atlantis straight to dvd movies.

Stupid DB errors and site running so slowly caused the double post and now I can't even edit it.

I'll miss it, but not terribly. SG-1 was much better--they turned up the "cheese" way too much on Atlantis. Especially with the Wraith.
I like the Atlantis characters and would have actually preferred more Teyla instead of season after season of episodes In Which Rodney McKay Saves The Day At The Very Last Minute By Jerry-rigging Some Technological Doodad. Seriously, that describes about 80% of Atlantis scripts.

Perhaps Jewel Staite is cursed. Good lord, keep that girl away from Eureka!

Kinda sad but this show is all over the map in quality and can never seem to stay up there in entertaining episodes. Lots of mediocre episodes and then some really great ones. ?
I watch the show because I like the characters and I can get my weekly fix of Sci Fi but it never became a really great show and ejecting characters like Weir and keeping ones like Ronin has been a big mistake.

I'm actually quite surprised that Sci-Fi is ending the series. I thought it was one of it's better performing series. I bet if Atlantis was produced by NBC-Universal instead of MGM, Sci-Fi would have kept it. But, the good news according to that article is the franchise isn't entirely dead and they will be making a series of TV movies instead.

I've been a fan since season 1 and I will miss seeing it in the summer and spring, but I won't cry about it as there is still hundreds of hours of other shows to keep me entertained.

I'm more disappointed that there will be no more Stargate on the air than I am about Atlantis specifically. Hopefully the new spinoff will be a go.

This is the perfect opportunity to make some Farscape movies as well.

I'm glad the franchise is still continuing in TV movie form, but I'd much rather have 20 hours of TV instead of 2 TV movies.

However, on the bright side I guess it will force the writers to write tighter scripts.

I'll be sorry to see it go.

Now all I have on the sci-fi channel is BSG, and that'll be over in the not too distant future...

I read somewhere that the weak American dollar and expensive special effects is part of the reason why the show is getting canned. Shows are actually more expensive to shoot in Canada now.

Amanda Tapping (Carter) has a new show called "Sanctuary" that is supposed to premiere in January.

So, besides Wrestling and Ghost Hunters exactly what the hell do you have left Sci-FI?
More reruns of Braveheart? Mansquito? Ice Spiders II?
Eureka will be to only sci-fi type show you'll have left. When are you cancelling it?

This pretty much kills off Sci-Fi for me. I don't bother watching their version of Doctor Who since they butcher it to add more commercials. I acquire by BBC copies through <cough> other means <cough>.
