Holly Sh*t its happen: NBC Bounces 'Barker' to Saturday

....Primetime on saturdays has never been good, even the most sucessful programs in history i.e. the golden girls did poor on saturdays. the ratings on saturdays are so bad people call it 'Death saturdays'.

Well I have to give NBC around of applause for having the balls out of the 4 major networks to bother putting new episodes of a ACTED show on saturdays.

NBC Bounces 'Barker' to Saturday
'Scrubs' will fill 'Andy's' slot starting Thursday

Given the underwhelming ratings it's earned in its few weeks on the air, "Andy Barker, P.I." was probably a longshot for renewal next year anyway. But that shot just got longer.

NBC has bumped "Andy" from its Thursday schedule this week and moved the show's final two episodes to the barren wasteland that is Saturday night network primetime. The remaining two episodes of the show will air back-to-back at 8 p.m. ET Saturday, April 14.

"Scrubs" will take over "Andy's" 9:30 p.m. time period a week earlier than originally planned. The veteran hospital comedy is switching spots with "30 Rock" for a few weeks and will move back to 9 p.m. in early May.

If there's any positive news in the "Andy Barker" move, it's that all six produced episodes will now air on the network. NBC had initially scheduled only five for air, with the sixth, "The Lady Varnishes," slated to appear only on the network's web site.

The first three episodes of "Andy Barker," which stars Andy Richter as a CPA-turned-private eye, averaged about 5.2 million viewers. Those numbers give the show, which earned a fair share of critical praise, the unwelcome distinction of being NBC's lowest-rated series this season.
NBC has really showed me some good work this year with renewing low rated shows, now they really have impressed me with this move, now if NBC but new episodes of Law & Order: CI on saturdays.

NBC ding dong ding!

Saturday night wasn't always ratings death. For a time during the 1970s it was one of, if not the highest rated night of the week with the CBS line-up of MASH, All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Bob Newhart Show and finishing up with The Carol Burnett Show. Talk about must see tv!

Other highly popular shows that spent part, if not all of their multi-year runs on saturday night: Hogan's Heroes, Get Smart, Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, Jackie Gleason Show and Mannix.

They're just sending Andy to Saturday to die a lonely death. If it was NBC's lowest rated series on Thursday, imagine the numbers it will do now.

Another failed Andy Richter show? How many more chances are they going to give this guy?

I love that they are making Scrubs scoot around in the schedule again. It wouldn't be a TV season on NBC without a timeslot change for that show.

I was thinking the same thing. While this show is okay, it certainly isn't more than filler in terms of things I watch. The last episode has been sitting unwatched on my Tivo for a week now.

I think Scrubs is the most shifted around program in history.

Same here. I watched the pilot on iTunes and thought it okay. Checked out all the airings on NBC and really didn't find it more than an okay show. I like Andy, but this show is pretty average.

NBC cancels 'Andy Barker, PI'

http://www.variety.com/article/VR111...goryid=14&cs=1

NBC is giving up on "Andy Barker, P.I."

After a lightly promoted four-seg run, the Peacock has pulled Conan O'Brien's critically adored midseason laffer from its Thursday perch effective immediately. It will be replaced by "Scrubs," which had been set to inherit the 9:30 p.m. timeslot April 19.

NBC has been streaming and selling all six produced episodes of "Andy" for several weeks now. This week it will also air the skein's final two segs in network TV's death slot, Saturday from 8 to 9.

O'Brien, Jonathan Groff, Jeff Ross and David Kissinger exec produced "Andy," which starred Andy Richter as a CPA-turned-private eye.

The Golden Girls ran in its Saturday slot for seven seasons and always did well.

This Saturday night "death night" thing is fairly recent.

I think 3rd Rock from the Sun had them both beat. When it was cancelled, I think I read that it had seventeen schedule changes during its run.

Same here. The premise is funnier than the actual product.

Think of the target audience and read that sentence again.

Yeah - stating it is being moved to Saturday instead of simply "replaced". If anything this give the show an opporunity to air all of the produced episodes...

According to this http://www.tvweek.com/news.cms?newsId=11853
Andy Barker has been canceled and NBC is just running off the last 2 episodes on Saturday.

Edit - oops, didn't see the other thread.

How is it a cancellation if they aired/will air all 6 episodes? Sounds like a complete limited-series run to me.

The show wasn't intended to be a limited series.

Annual Ratings
1985-1986 season: 7th place (tied with Dynasty), 21.8 average rating
1986-1987 season: 5th place, 24.5 average rating
1987-1988 season: 4th place, 21.8 average rating
1988-1989 season: 6th place, 21.4 average rating
1989-1990 season: 6th place, 20.1 average rating
1990-1991 season: 10th place, 16.5 average rating
1991-1992 season: 30th place (tied with In the Heat of the Night), 13.1 average rating

I don't think those ratings came solely from old people.

What gets me is that they put the show on thursday nights to try and get viewers from Earl, The Office, 30 Rock and Scrubs but they do it as all of the shows are going on hiatus. I believe Scrubs has been the only show not showing reruns since Andy Barker started. Up until last week that is. I've seen Fox do this a good bit with new shows also.
