South Park - "Fantastic Easter Special" - 4/4/07
Determined to get the real story behind why he has to decorate eggs for Easter, Stan falls in with an eccentric society that guards a legendary secret.
Hmm. This could be gold with the current episode track record - especially when you consider "Woodland Critter Christmas". About time they had another holiday special episode!

Oh, The DaVinci Code, I get it.
This is one of those episodes where there's too much story going on.
Singing "Here Comes Peter Cottontail" in Latin though was genius.
Peeps!

Lock up those two Jews, we'll deal with them later.
Eric Cartman can never know about this.
..and to top it all off, a Krull reference.

South Park
"The ultimate hypocrite is not Comedy Central — that's their decision not to show the image of Muhammad or not — it's Parker and Stone. Like little whores, they'll sit there and grab the bucks. They'll sit there and they'll whine and they'll take their shot at Jesus. That's their stock in trade." — Donohue, in a statement about South Park creators Parker and Stone following the "Cartoon Wars Part II" episode.
Parker and Stone had criticized their home network, Comedy Central, for refusing to display an image of Muhammad in a South Park episode. Though the image of Muhammad was not present, an image of Jesus Christ (a recurring character on the show), depicted defecating on an American flag and President Bush, was left intact in the episode, which many claimed illustrated the network's own hypocrisy. [23] This depiction was presented on the fictional basis that it was a counter-attack against the US for allowing a Family Guy episode to air with an image of Muhammad. The final scene of the "Cartoon Wars Part II" episode, in which the terrorists broadcast an anti-American film, serves to illustrate the hypocrisy of the censorship decision. It raises the question, "Why is this acceptable to air, when an image of Mohammed, 'just standing there, looking normal', is not?"
On 4 April 2007, South Park parodied Donahue in eleventh series episode "Fantastic Easter Special" as a power-hungry official of the Catholic Church, overthrowing the Pope and sentencing Jesus to death. He is killed at the end of the episode by Jesus.

You know ... this explanation of the connection between the Easter Bunny and Jesus is as good as any other I've heard. And that Pope hat does fit perfectly with rabbit ears.

I've never seen the Da Vinci code (or read the book) so I didn't even get that reference until reading this thread. Also never heard of Bill Donahue.
it was an ok episode for me, every week there's more and more little jokes that if you don't get them, the show just doesn't work as well.
my Mom the past couple of years has been convinced that the Pope and the Catholic Church are evil, but I think she would have been offended at the thought of St. Peter being a rabbit.

I agree with JP5683, the better you know the source material, the better you like these episodes. Last week was awesome because I've seen every 24. This week was mostly dull to me (but for a few laughs) because I've never read or seen DaVinci Code.
Krull and Peeps though.

I've never read/seen Da Vinci Code and I thought it was a great episode. If there was anything I missed other than the connection to his art holding a secret to Christ, it obviously wasn't important.

Even though I don't watch 24, I knew enough about it to know it was a great spoof.
I'm in the same boat - never read or seen DaVinci Code, so most of this one was dull for me as well.

Really the only Da Vinci code callback that I noticed (read the book, never saw the movie) was the mansion of the "expert". And I guess the secret society protecting the truth, but here it was much bigger than in TdVC.
I thought it was a great episode. "We thought you died... in Iraq." Nice reference to Red Sleigh Down.
