Yes. It was announced earlier this year that SciFi will air Series 3 during the summer.
I liked the episode. Good start to a new series. I wasn't too won over with Martha's family but they were only given so much air time this episode. Maybe they'll grow on me. Just felt like they were forcing the same family dynamic that Rose had. Whatever. The show's BACK!!!! 13 weeks of Doctor Who goodness! Sidenote: This was the first episode my entire family sat down to watch with me. Before this weekend, it was "Dad's Show" and everyone would leave the room (my youngest son would RUN from the room screaming "My eyes!"). My wife would watch some episodes on occasion and recently, my oldest son and I have been plowing though the Series 2 DVDs. He's really enjoyed the show and couldn't wait for the series finale (Daleks Vs. Cybermen). But today was the first time everyone raced into the room when the music started. My wife even gave this episode a thumbs up. Good times. |
The Sci-Fi channel "announcement" was pulled down shortly after it went up. So we'll see. Sooner is better than later.
As for Smith and Jones: this episode had double duty: it had to kick-off the new series, and it had to sell the audience on Martha. And it did both superbly! Admittedly, I didn't care much for the main "villain", but she wasn't in it much so it wasn't that big of a deal. The Judoon were great -- I hope they appear again some time (I can't say as much for, say, The Slitheen). I've been worried about liking Martha as a companion. I liked Rose quite a bit, and I never felt anything "special" about Freema's performance in Army of Ghosts. She got a much better introduction than Rose, and I like her already. Great chemistry with the Doctor...she'll be a good fit, I think. Looking forward to the rest of the season! |
Martha is smoking hot, so I guess I'll be happy.

Great start to Series 3! Excellent chemistry between The Doctor and Martha.

BBC chiefs awoke red-faced this morning to the news that an average of less than 4 million viewers tuned in to catch the first episode of the third series of their flagship Saturday-night show. The figure is the lowest that the show has ever received in its 34 year history. Questions are now being asked about the future of the series which began its re-vamped run in 2005 with over 10 million viewers. The blow comes at a crucial time as the BBC struggles to maintain it's hold on audiences in the multi-channel age. Doctor Who bosses Julie Gardiner and Russell T Davies were said to be 'shocked, saddened and surprised' by the news with Davies insisting that 'the show must go on'. A statement from BBC Director General Mark Thomas's office backed Davies claiming that 'the BBC is fully committed to Doctor Who', however insiders at BBC Wales where the show is made, are not so optimistic: 'If the ratings don't pick up by the end of April the BBC will end up looking like fools - they'll have no choice but to pull it from the Saturday night slot' said an unnamed source. |
When it rains it pours. I just heard Switzerland's spaghetti crop was hard hit by the winter frost.
Seriously though, my disappointment in Torchwood seems to have slightly bled over to DW. Not enough for me to stop watching, but just temper my enthusiasm. I'm sure I just need a episode or two to get the bad taste out of my mouth. |

Just caught the new episode. I thought it was good. The wife loves this show (and Torchwood). I was skeptical about the new companion but I think it will work.

Interesting how we start the last two seasons in a hospital. ;)
I'm not really looking forward to another season of family dynamic with Martha's group. And this series continues to be far too earth-centric. Other than those complaints, it was an entertaining episode and I agree that I'll be happy to have the Judoon back in the future. Even despite the day, that BBC article still got me for a second. Anybody else watch the Who Weakest Link episode? The first round was obviously rigged. Poor K-9. :( |
Not reading anything in the thread. Just saying I hate you all. :grumble:
I'll chime in once SciFi starts airing Series 3. :( |
Vote Saxon!

No show I watch fills me with as much joy, glee, and wonder as Who does. I love this show. They did a good job introducing Martha. I already love her.
|
Yeah, I really enjoyed it.
Also, did anyone catch the "I had a brother, but not anymore" line? |

Before they took their helmets off, I was sure they were going to be Sontarans...

Also of interest: the first S3 Totally Doctor Who includes a 3-4 minute animated episode. I believe it should be a weekly thing.

Good start, but like others feel, they really need to film away from Earth more often. |

I'm hoping we learn a little more about the Time Wars this season as well. |
