The cages they use may be different too. The entries on the King Crab cage is probably big enough that an opilio could get back out. They are designed in a way that smaller King Crab are supposed to slip back out too and only leave the big keepers. Could be totally wrong though and the pots are exactly the same.

It's my understanding the boat gets 1/2 of whatever the boat brings in as it incurrs all the costs.

I'm pretty sure you're correct. The pots are the same but they are set up differently to have smaller openings.

This is correct. On an earlier season, they showed them tightening up their pots so the opies couldn't escape.

There is a decent article on the Hansen brothers in the March issue of Viking magazine (the Sons of Norway publication). Kind of interesting to read about how they all treat the publicity. I like how Norman actually spends his winters in a cabin that can only be reached by snowmobile.

Got a link? What can I say, I'm lazy.

Incidentally, "After the Catch" was pretty interesting.

Is it me or is the luster wearing off this show? I loved it when I first started watching (and just in awe over the conditions and how they fish) but now the stories seem tired and forced. Each episode just feels like a repeat.

I completely agree. The drama feels like it has been scripted for this season. I never had that feeling while watching the previous seasons. Discovery/TLC has a long history in manufacturing "drama". Almost all of American Hot Rod is unwatchable because of the phony situations(plus Boyd and Duane are complete assholes). It now appears that Deadliest Catch is following suit.

Yeah, I loved how they scripted that guy going in the water and those other guys saving him in about 5 minutes.

I never said that the whole show was scripted. There are a number of scenes that just felt fake to me(obviously not the guy mangling his thumb). One of the scenes that comes to mind was when they made a big deal out of showing Blake dump excess crab over the boat because he would have been fined for being over his quota. Then, during off load, he comes up short on the count. That whole scene felt made up to me. I do still enjoy the show because Sig is the man!

Anyone out there? That Chilly guy seems to be a real prick. I wish that the greenhorn would cowboy up and kick his ass!

Caught the new season preview last night, looks pretty good, can't wait for this show to come back. Looks like the new season starts April 15th and they start running repeats and season "best of" specials starting the 31st.

Also, could anyone please post the link to the thread of the guy who had a friend who died of one of the fishing boats, I couldn't find it in a search, but maybe didn't have the right key words.
