"Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?"

I have a season pass because I thought it would be hilarious but I may need to cancel it due to how clueless (trying to use a polite word here) people are. What does REM stand for... on which month does Columbus Day fall... she took three freaking minutes to answer on which boat the Pilgrims came... I keep thinking they were told to act stupid to make a good show, I refuse to believe don't know that stuff. So far I've gotten 1 answer wrong... I didn't know the 1st prez to be impeached (Andrew Johnson).

Ayre 02-28-07 07:18 AM

*shrug* I would have to guess at 2 out of the 3, although my odds of being correct would be pretty good.

Timber 02-28-07 08:07 AM

I didn't think the questions were fair. I mean why would the average adult know when Columbus Day was? Sure when I was in school everyday I had off was committed to memory but now Columbus day doesn't affect my life in the least. The REM question was the only one I got right by the way.

Plus the show is too dragged out. Commercial-new question-commercial-answer-end of show.

This was brutally bad. The contestants seem to be chosen from some lesser tier of society, the kids seemed to be chosen from some kind of gifted school, and the questions were amazingly easy. Jeopardy it ain't.

Groucho 02-28-07 08:44 AM

Disappointed in their choice of host. What, Larry the Cable guy wasn't available? :sad:

Deftones 02-28-07 08:53 AM

Yeah. I think this are "ringer" kids. They all seem pretty damn smart for their age.

SoSpacey 02-28-07 09:37 AM

S-L-O-W

They really need to pick up the pace and bring in contestants who use the 5% average of brain power that most humans use.

I think the people that would be drawn in by Jeff Foxworthy are the same people who would think this is a challenging show.

Mok 02-28-07 10:16 AM

They made the kids look like the just walked off the pages of the Sears catalog.

The first " 5th grader " Laura has a nice little acting career going on. I recognized her as Sarah Silverman's daughter from last week's show. http://imdb.com/name/nm1404824/

They should have gotten Michael Jackson.

Technically wasn't Bill Clinton impeached? I thought if you were brought to an impeachment trial you were considered impeached, regardless if you were removed from office or not. That's why I thought it was a trick question, like the polar bear/penguin one (which I actually knew!)

I still don't understand the triangle question. That wasn't anything I learned in 5th grade. We were still learning long division then. Maybe in 9th grade geometry....

Like Clinton, Johnson was never removed from office, either. He completed his term. The Senate didn't have the 2/3rds majority needed for conviction and removal from office for either of these Presidents. But, yes, both were technically "impeached".

Area = 1/2 (base x height)

so, height = area/base x 2

So wouldn't have Clinton been an acceptable answer? I don't understand why they phrased it "the only president to have been impeached".

According to Wikipedia, Clinton was the only elected president to have been impeached (Johnson assumed presidency after Lincoln's assassination.)

I think the question writers aren't as smart as a fifth grader either!

Wasn't the question the first president to be impeached? That's how I remember it and, if that is the case, then Johnson is the only right answer.

Jadzia 02-28-07 11:57 AM

Ah, ok that would make sense. I thought they said only.

Oddly enough, he was asked. He refused the offer, fearing this show would ruin his career.

Area = 1/2 (base x height)

so, height = area/base x 2

4X8 = 32

32/2 = 16

Watching 10 mins of this show and I hate it.. The contestant got the question wrong, but the kid next to her got the question right... so shouldn't she have lost? instead she goes on to try and win more money... it's like they are making up the rules as they go

FantasticVSDoom 02-28-07 09:05 PM

I was excited about this show, but yeah it pretty much sucks... First of all, yeah no adult is really going to know when Columbus day is because no one really gets it off ( I do so I know when it is, :lol:). And yeah, didnt learn the area of a triangle in 5th grade. I mean I knew all the questions (except for the Johnson one because I said Jackson) but this is info that doesnt really mean much to people over a certain age.

They are playing WITH the other kid, not against them. So if the kid gets it right it saves them. But I think they can only get one save per kid, so they have to choose another kid to play with once they run out. They also have a "cheat" option where they can copy the kid's answer.

Deftones 02-28-07 09:14 PM

No, they only get one "peek", one "save" and one "copy" at all, not per kid.

asabase 02-28-07 09:49 PM

It was pretty bad the UCLA + law degree guy didn't get a single one right.

But some of the questions could be hard....If I don't get Columbus day off, I don't give a damn when it is.

The show goes way too slow overall and the kids are fake. That one girl up front was laughing at everything.
