Question About DirecTV DVR

For those that have it...

Is there a way, like Tivo, to flip from one tuner to the other with a click on the button?

I have the ability to watch one show and record another. When I had tivo, and there were two shows on that I was interested in, I would watch one show, click a button on the remote, and go to the other tuner and rewind. I now have DirecTV DVR, but I cannot find a way to do this. Can you not switch tuners while watching TV like you could on Tivo?

Unfortunately, no. You have to manually enter the channel to switch to the other tuner.

I believe I read at the Tivo forums that the DTV DVRs only have a single buffer. I'm not sure if thats true though.

True.

I guess I am confused. Direct TV and their DVR is a TIVO since Direct TV is a part owner of TIVO. I have a Direct TV DVR and can do exactly what you are trying to do. I can record two at once, watch something that has been TIVO'ed while recording two at once, I can switch between tuners, switch to live TV, switch to a recording in progress or watch another channel. I am sorry i do not understand the term rewind in this context, you mean start from the beginning? I can do that too.

You have a DirecTiVo, but DirecTV no longer sells them. Their DVR is an inhouse brand and (imo) is nowhere close to TiVo software.

Part owner of TiVo?? Since when?

DirecTV owns no part of Tivo.

I knew that was the case, I thought I missed something.

They just extended their contract with TiVo to allow for continued updates of existing TiVo software (and likely also not to get sued for their inhouse version software).
