Ice/Wind + DVR = Bummer

I just wanted to vent that along with an ice and wind storm last night we lost power. Power wasn't restored until 9:30 this morning. Worse even than losing the furnace was it went out towards the end of our watching The Departed on HD-DVD and I missed my DVR recording of the first SNL I was actually looking forward to this season. Bummer!

It sounds to me like the inclusion of DVR in this thread is pretty arbitrary. Ice/Wind + cable, + VCR, or just + TV would have pretty much the same impact. It's not as though any of them are likely to work in most homes during a power outage.

I have one word for you: generator. Big ass, 4 kW (5 kW intermittant) generator. Although so far, our power has stayed on in this ice storm.

Yeah, but you also need to cover/black-out all the windows so your neighbors don't know you've got power. Else they'll be knocking on your door to watch TV, cook their food, keep themselves from freezing to death, and other inconveniences. F that!

We sat in our silent house and listened to one of our neighbor's generator running. I do really need to get one of those.

That's why I have 4 attack dogs and everyone in my house from my 5 year old daughter to 60 year old grand mother is trained and certified to use handguns, shotguns, explosives and field artillery. This summer we're putting up another watch tower and searchlight to patrol the barbed wire perimeter of the compound.
