Although technically not the series finale of All in the Family (actually the first episode of Archie Bunker's Place), "Archie Alone" when Edith Kicks the bucket was some powerful television.

for Band of Brothers. I was emotionally exhausted when that series wrapped.
I think there were a few shows with emotional finales before MTM. (e.g. The Fugitive, The Prisoner, The Odd Couple)
