I hope this isn't the end for Keppler because they really wasted the talent of Schreiber IMO...

And it's over.

Good episode but it's a shame he wasn't used more effectively in the previous eps. Should be interesting to see who the minature killer really is...

Did anyone think Grissom was a bit too, I don't know the right word, happy? Seemed to be a bit more chipper than his old self.

Great episode, hated to see Keppler go...

what a waste of 4 episodes.

Actually, his old self was happier, chipper, and easy going.
Why they changed that completely by around seasons 3-4 and turned him into a dour, emotionless, far-too-quiet guy is something I still want to know, because it's a shame that he changed like that.

His new beard is sorta gross looking. :wacko: When is he gonna open that damn box?!

Looks like next week. Good thing the crime didn't happen during the time he was gone...

As for Grissom, I guess I never noticed his change even though I've watched since the beginning. I have all the seasons on DVD so I should go back and check that out. I wonder if the change in the character was William Petersen's choice since I think seasons 4 was when he got the exec producer credit and, I assume, more say over the character.

Good episode but this felt like an end-of-the-run movie more than a normal week of CSI to me.

For the past 3 weeks I was positive that they were setting Keppler up for CSI:Balitmore. Sad to see him go. I liked his character and I liked the way he dominated every scene he was in. Just took over.

Grissom was like a dog in heat when he came back!

This was one of the best CSI episodes I've ever seen. Not the usual, standard type stuff we are used to.

Good to see they're still putting out quality episodes after all these years.

It's strange but on the one hand I would've liked to see more of Keppler since, as pdutta2000 said, Schreiber basically dominated every scene he was in (even if he wasn't used more effectively with the story). On the other hand, would the ep have been as good if he didn't die?

Also, why was Catherine so emotionally out of control (well, for her she seemed to be more attached). Was there an unseen/untold relationship with Keppler? Or perhaps she felt that Keppler was her soul counterpart or something?

Compare the pilot, or any season 1/season 2 episode to a season 4, 5, 6, or 7 episode and you will see quite the difference in overall attitude. I miss the Season 1 Grissom.

CSI: Miami is the same - all the things people hate/laugh at about Horatio Caine should look at the CSI 'backdoor' pilot, or any season 1 episode and, like Grissom, he was a very different character. One who was MUCH more credible and respectable than the gimmick he is now.

Two lead characters on two CSI shows undergo mid-series-run changes?
I'd say that the writers are responsible for it, not Petersen and Caruso.

His scruffier beard and white hair were for his "Dublin Carol" character he left CSI to perform.

Yup, Grissom's changed over the years. He's definitely become more dour. Probably cause he's needed some poontang.

Was that beard fake? I was watching it in HD and man, that thing looked like cat hair put on with spirit gum.

As for Keppler, we didn't actually see him dead, so who knows. I actually really liked his character. Too bad the episodes he was in sucked.

No, the best episode of the last several seasons was the two-parter directed by Quentin Tarantino.

IMO, this was much better than that. I had seen that plot (webcam and time-limit death) on about a half a dozen shows before that, and I was pretty sure they weren't going to kill off a regular so there wasn't much suspense. It was not executed in a particularly interesting or stylish way.

In the interest of full disclosure, I think Tarantino is overrated so I might have been watching that with an overly critical eye.

I actually thought that two parter was pretty terrible.

This episode wasn't bad though, quite enjoyable.

Eads need to lay off the Texas BBQ, he's getting a potbelly. That horizontal striped sweater sure didn't help.

Thumbs up to getting Liz Vassey more screen time. She's much easier on the eyes than Langham.

I get the impression that Grissom almost hates Hodges, but won't ever come out and say it. Hodges just bothers him and won't take a hint. It's funny how Hodges is always reasserting that he and Grissom are close pals.
