There were a lot of devices to make this easier. The stuff that was hard to catch wasn't just what was said, but what was left unsaid, so something would go down in Al's office, and then Al would turn around and explain what had happened to Dan Dority/Johnny Burns/the head-in-a-box.

It's definitely easier to watch in larger chunks rather than an hour a week, because it's hard to keep all the plotlines straight.
