Seinfeld Quote
Alright all you Seinfeld fans. I am trying to find an episode those quote is in. I KNOW it is Jerry talking and I am almost positive it is Jerry talking to George but that is not certain.
The quote goes: George or something says something, then Jerry responds by saying "Do you? Cause I don't think you do." Kind of in his stern voice. It might be a stretch if anyone can get this but it would be great. Thanks. |
Could it be this exchange?
Jerry: I don't understand. Do you have my reservation? Rental Car Agent: We have your reservation, we just ran out of cars. Jerry: But the reservation keeps the car here. That's why you have the reservation. Rental Car Agent: I think I know why we have reservations. Jerry: I don't think you do. You see, you know how to *take* the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them. |

Ahhh, that might be the episode. Although I swear there was another time Jerry said it but maybe I am wrong. I think you are wright Groucho but if someone thinks it might also have been said twice, let me know.
|
I think it was used in a conversation with George as well. I'm racking my brain, but coming up empty.
|
I immediately thought of the Car Rental agent as well...
There's a good place to check here: http://www.seinology.com/scripts-english.shtml You can use the search option to search for phrases in the scripts. There didn't seem to be any other references to it. I thought it might also have been in The Hamptons, when George tried to walk in on Rachel getting changed. |
I knew there was a similar exchange with either George or Kramer (although the rental car agent is classic). After some searching, here's what I was originally thinking about...maybe it's yours too:
GEORGE: Wait, wait. Here me out. Don't dismiss this. You're very quick to dismiss. Don't dismiss. She's got a big crush on David Letterman, I mean, a big crush. She talks about him all the time. Suppose I go up to David Letterman. He works at NBC; I work at NBC. I explain my situation. He agrees to meet her. They go out, they fall madly in love. And she dumps me for David Letterman. JERRY: This is your plan? GEORGE: No, no. I'm just thinking. JERRY: I don't think you are. |
Sorry, for some reason I can't edit my posts (what's that about?)...that quote is from "The Virgin."
|
Could it be the episode where a flea market is brought up, and Jerry says to George "Do you know what a flea market is? I don't think you do. You think they have fleas there, don't you?"
|
I thought he used the "I don't think you do" line a lot with George
|
A quick google of the phrase "I don't think you do" and Seinfeld bring up the one Grouch mentioned at this site.
Here's an interesting little seen episode bit (the episode where Seinfeld goes to Baghdad): Hotel Agent: I’m sorry, we have no hotels left standing up in this part of the City. Jerry: I don’t understand, I made a “Clear and Hold” reservation. Agent: I know, but unfortunately the hotels were all knocked down. Jerry: But the “Clear and Hold” reservation keeps the hotel here. That’s why you have the “Clear and Hold” reservation. Agent: I know why we have “Clear and Hold” reservations. Jerry: I don’t think you do. If you did, I’d have a hotel room. See, you know how to clear the violent neighborhood, you just don’t know how to hold the violent neighborhood, and that’s really the most important part of the “Clear and Hold” reservation, the holding. Anybody can just clear out the neighborhood. That also came up in the same google search, found in full at this site. |

I agree that he used it a lot with George. I'm pretty sure he used it in the Marisa Tomei episode.

The quote goes: George or something says something, then Jerry responds by saying "Do you? Cause I don't think you do." Kind of in his stern voice. It might be a stretch if anyone can get this but it would be great. Thanks. --------- From Seinfeld episode #161 "The Cartoon" written by Bruce Eric Kaplan. ELAINE: Well boys, I did it. I had to stay up all night but I finally came up with a great New Yorker cartoon. JERRY: I'd stayed up all night I'd fixed myself up a little before I'd go out. ELAINE: That is not the point. JERRY: some mouthwash, a hat, something. ELAINE: Just read it! JERRY: (glances at it) Pretty good. ELAINE: Pretty good? Well uh! This is a gem . Kramer look it....(Kramer stays silent).....What? It's funny. JERRY: It's a pig at a complain department. ELAINE: And he's saying " I wish I was taller" ha ha. See? that's his complaint. JERRY: I get it. ELAINE: Do you!!!.. because that's not a normal complaint. JERRY: How 'bout if it was something like " I can't find my receipt my place's a stye. ELAINE: Everything with you has to be so .. jokey. JERRY: I'm a comedian. ELAINE: I wish I was taller, that's, that's, that's nice. that's real. JERRY: Well I got a complaint. This cartoon stinks. ELAINE: I'll tell you who doesn't think it stinks, The New Yorker. that's right. They're publishing it in their next issue. Oh! you know what I just ran into Newman in the hall and he said you tried to grope Sally Weaver. JERRY: oh! that's it I'm gonna put an end to this. (Picks up a phone and dials Sally's number. Kramer taps on a sheet of paper that he gives to Elaine to read.) ELAINE: The pig says "my wife is a slut." http://www.seinology.com/scripts/script-169.shtml |
ELAINE: The pig says "my wife is a slut."
Haha, that cracks me up everytime. |
I'm not sure if you've gotten the answer you're looking for, but the first thing I thought of after reading your post was:
Kramer: It's a write off for them. Jerry: Write it off what? Kramer: They just write it off. Jerry: You don't even know what a write off is, do you? Kramer: Do you? Jerry: No, I don't. |
