The 'I Wish ____ Was CANCELED' Thread

I thought this might be fun, as long as everyone plays nice. I know everybody gets that feeling, that feeling when a commercial airs for a certain show or you see a magazine article with an actor from a certain show and you just say to your self 'Jeez, I wish that show was canceled'. Well, come here and make your list, share those feelings with the group. :)

Remember this is just for fun. We're all friends here. :beer2:

My number 1: The O.C.

... Oh wait...

My new number 1: American Idol
No real reason except for the fact that I hate reality shows and it's stealing the ratings of other shows that are more deserving.

GoldenJCJ 01-03-07 10:39 PM

I wish Desperate Housewives was canceled. I'm tired of seeing all of the actors appear EVERYWHERE!

Red Dog 01-03-07 10:40 PM

Not even close: American Idol. Lousy show and sucks away so many timeslots for potential better programming.

UAIOE 01-03-07 10:46 PM

Every single "reality" show.

And I third and fourth "American Idol". The idea of this show sounds great on paper, but the execution is so poor.

Better programming? On FOX? You've got to be kidding.

If you're like me and don't watch it, AI may be the most annoying damned show ever. It would be my pick in an instant.

Restraining myself to scripted shows, I'll take Grey's Anatomy. If I hear "Mc" in front of somebody else's name because of this show, I may punch something.

haha, totally agree with that last statement. I would also like to add E.R. to my list, I use to watch it, but I simply cannot stomach it anymore.

And for anyone that watches wrestling, I'd can ECW because it just does not hold a candle to RAW, Smackdown!, or iMPACT, maybe give ROH a show?

GuruTwo 01-03-07 10:53 PM

"Family Guy"

It's not even that popular (seriously, look at the ratings) but it's very cheap to produce so will likely never die.

Unfortunately the cheapness also results in no quality writing, animation or voiceover work, firmly establishing the show as the worst primetime sitcom of all time.

hardercore 01-03-07 10:59 PM

Prison Break at the end of this Season. Season 3's going to be all set in prison again, for chrissake! Recycle storylines much?

24. Only so many times Jack Bauer can yell loudly and torture terrorists before it starts to feel mundane.

American Idol. For oh-so-many reasons.

Groucho 01-03-07 11:03 PM

None. As long as shows I like stay on the air, I don't really care if bad shows are canceled or not. If I don't like a show, I don't watch it.

How DARE you!

I'm shocked at the lack of SNL answers. I personally think of SNL almost like a really beat up teddy bear I'd miss, but I thought it was hated by legions.

Maxflier 01-03-07 11:19 PM

American Idol

Josh-da-man 01-03-07 11:29 PM

I don't like American Idol, but my girlfriend watches it.

Last season, they had the contestants singing Kenny Rogers songs.

And one of the judges told the contestant that he didn't pick a good song.

And I'm thinking YOU GUYS ARE THE ONES WHO HAD THEM SINGING FUCKING KENNY ROGERS SONGS THAT NIGHT! WHOSE FAULT IS THAT?

I really don't understand the ratings that thing pulls. It's like the same thing every season... the girl who wants to be Whitney Houston. The girl who wants to be Martina McBride. The gay guy who was rejected by both NSync and the Backstreet Boys. The dorky crooner.

And they have them singing the shittiest, lamest songs they can secure the rights to cheaply.

And Paula Abdul did a rap song with a cartoon cat. She has no right to judge a 4H pig contest, let along a music competition.

I'd like to hold that opinion, but I don't have the self control to stop watching. So I wish Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, American Idol, Prison Break, SNL, and 24 were all cancelled, because these shows suck, and yet I can't stop watching them. My life would be better if someone else just took them from me, so I don't have to man up and walk away myself.

American Idol
Survivor
The Amazing Race
Deal or No Deal
1 vs. 100
Trading Places/Wife Swap/whatever spouse switching show
Surreal Life

Basically any primetime show that doesn't star a "real" actor could go in my book.

she gained more than enough street credibility to make up for that when she sang a love song to keanu reeves

Tscott 01-04-07 01:50 AM

Has anyone mentioned American Idol yet?

I hate it when people casually say something like "The new song/album from ____________" (insert Katharine McPhee, Kellie Pickler or any other name I'd have to look up on google) "has come out and have you heard it yet?" And they always say it in such a way that assumes that everyone should automatically know who the hell they're talking about.

Neeb 01-04-07 02:51 AM

Grey's Anatomy.
ER
The Apprentice
Star Trek (I'm covering my bets here)
Any comedy on CBS or ABC

gotrice487 01-04-07 03:05 AM

Thrush 01-04-07 03:37 AM

According to Jim

CSI clones & spin-offs
Tom goes to the mayor
8th and Ocean
The Hills
Americas funniest home videos

VH1's I love the 70S,80S/best week ever/ all of the "lets have no-name unfunny comedians and celebs comment on pop culture shows"
Stargate SG1 & ATL
Pimp my ride clones

porieux 01-04-07 04:31 AM

It would be easier for me to list the ones I wouldn't want canceled:

Lost
Battlestar Galactica (though it's pushing it)
House
Metalocalypse
King of the Hill

I must be forgetting something else....

Agreed.

I did a near identical thread a while back and got lambasted for it. "if you don't like it don't watch it" blah, blah, blah.

Now that Will & Grace is off, my list is down to American Idol & basically all major network reality shows. I'll take ER over Grey's Anatomy any day this season. ER has returned to form while GA needs to be put out of its misery.

Here's what I said back then:

Why do I care? I can change the channel or turn off the tv, but with so many hours wasted on this stuff, there could be shows like Arrested Development, Scrubs, or Lost getting a chance on the air.
Sounds preposterous, but look how well NBC Thursdays turned out once they dumped Will & Grace & bumped The Apprentice(reality). Both of which were on my initial list. Now we have Earl, the Office, & Scrubs back to back to back. That would have never happened before. We have "Must see TV" back for the first time since Seinfeld went off the air. So you can easily take the high road and say "don't like, don't watch" but we can benefit from networks weeding out the crap instead of ignoring it.
