Eh, I enjoyed it.

Groucho 01-03-07 08:28 AM

Wow, every character in this was throughly unpleasant, and the show was almost completely humorless. It's like the anti-entourage!

What a vile piece of crap this was. Miserable characters and bleak situations. I felt the need to shower after it was over.

In the words of Lisa Simpson..."M-E-H....Meh."

This should have definitely started out a Wednesday night show so the Shield could come back now on the regular Tuesday evening.

Well that was pretty bad. Swing and a miss for FX.

As for the show itself, it's definitely a situation where I'll keep watching because there's nothing else on at the same time; nothing in the pilot has really grabbed my attention. I can see the photographer plotline becoming a major time-waster, as there are only so many times you can show someone hallucinating before it gets boring; also, his story isn't being helped by the "edgy" (read: very annoying) camerawork and editing.

But I'll definitely give it a few more shots, as most new shows try to find their footing in the first few episodes; plus, they have good subject material to build on, as I'm genuinely curious to see how a tabloid magazine is run. It would be nice if we get a balance between that and the staff's personal lives.

And hey, nice to see Stormy get some work outside of the porn business!

If you don't mind me asking, why did you choose this as your first FX show?

Wanted to see the darker side of Courtenay Cox. Promos looked good to me, kinda like Entourage but on the flip side.

I don't really see what's so terrible about the show. I've definitely seen worse debuts, and I plan to sample the show for a while longer to see if it's worthwhile. Sure, I'd rather be watching The Shield right now. I can wait a couple months, though.

DIRT is watchable if only for the exceptional acting of Ian Hart (who plays Don Kinney). Every time he's onscreen the show becomes exceptional. I'm going to recommend a look to the skeptical just to see a terrific actor at work.

Taser-ing someone in the balls used to be funny.

I'll give it another episode, but yeah, this wasn't any good.

Red Dog 01-03-07 10:27 PM

The photographer creeped me out but I suppose that is what the producers are aiming for.

As for the show, I haven't come to a decision yet. Mild interest so far.

Reading through this thread prior to watching this show may have helped it out for me. It obviously had lowered my expectations, and after watching it last night, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

I'll give it another shot next week.

Finally got around to watching it.

I liked all the actors ..... except Cox. The crying scene made me laugh out loud. Her face has been frozen into a permanent smirk. The only thing positive I can say about her is that she has her Joan Collins "The Bitch" imitation down pretty good.

The photographer rocked. Loved the effects added to emphasize his mental condition. He was about the only likable character. At least they gave him a conscience.
