Battlestar Gallactica - Finally Up-to-Date...Thoughts
I made it my goal to finally watch Battlestar Gallactica, and today I caught up to the present day.
What a fantastic show, I was truely blown away from the very start...the confusion and lack of info during the first moments of the invasion had me hooked. There is one thing that bothers me though...I think the show is not self-aware enough, and want to know if its just because I watched all the episodes in rapid sucession. A couple of problem spots where I think the show missed great opportunities 1. Helo...OK, I understand that theres some initial anamosity due to the fact that he came back from Caprica in love with Sharon....but hell! The guy was left for dead for months, he turns up, and everyone is like..."oh, hey, theres Helo, ho hum" In reality, cylon-lover or not, the guy would be MOBBED for info, accolades, stories....shit, the guy would be an instantaneous LEGEND among the crew...its like the writers got really sick of having to incorporate him into the entire first season, and just wanted him to go away for a while. 2. HUGE PROBLEM...while I noticed that some people commented that the applause Col. Tigh got when returning to CIC was cool it was WAY too little. You HAVE to realize that within the fleet, Tigh would be a GOD to the civilian population. Poncho Villa, Nelson Mandella, Robin Hood, George Washington, and Simon Bolivar rolled into one. Not having a scene where Adama snapped him out of his funk by bringing him to a group of citizens who worship him was just a bad job. 3. And finally, for now...in what dimension would Adama take ANY order from Baltar? He arrested Roslin for Gods sake (BTW, I HATED Roslin until very recently.) So rather than going through multiple threads, what was peoples origional take on all this? |
Galactica!

I was surprised at ANY applause for Tigh when returning to CIC. The guy is a known drunk and for the most part, the crew all think that.
That was up until New Caprica. Now, Tigh has shown his stripes and engineered a hell of a stand on New Caprica and was instrumental in getting the settlers back in space. But, do all of the crew know this? Do they all feel endeared to him now? I wouldn't have said yes, especially with the way he left the CIC. Quitting on Adama and crawling into the bottle. But I know what you mean, sometimes the glaring things don't get addressed. |
BUT, its not just the escape, Tigh, Anders, and Terrel were the driving force behind keeping the civilian population HUMAN, and never becoming slaves.
Even Roslin has an attitude when talking about the ground war vs. those who lounged on the Battlestars, and to not even REFERENCE that Tigh would be a fleet-wide hero is VERY strange |
Tigh was in prison during most of the occupation. And when he got out, he ran things but never got out in the open. Most people wouldn't know about all of the stuff he did. Roslin would. But regular folks wouldnt. They'd look to the Chief more than Tigh as the driving force.

With all the press in the fleet, you would think that someone would be writing a history of the post-invasion human race, and this would be public knowledge

Speaking of the press, they used to make a big deal about radio shows and TV interviews, they seemed to have dropped that this season.
