They have definitely come up with a creative way for product placement in this show. From Applebee's to Hammermill to Benihana's, none of them seem out of place at all. Having a Christmas party at a restaurant or get together actually seems to ground it more in reality.

What would be the ultimate in nerd-dom is if they would use the restaurant and actors from Office Space at some point in time.

The Tease: An 'Office' Christmas
By Rick Porter
December 13, 05:58 PM

At first blush, the idea of The Office doing a Christmas episode for the second year in a row may not seem like the best idea. Most comedies don't like to repeat themselves that way, and last year's Yankee Swap-themed episode was pretty good stuff.

But offices across this great land of ours have holiday parties every single year, and so it seems natural that the Dunder Mifflin documentarians would check back in with this year's Christmas party.

Good thing they did, too, because this year's yuletide offering, "A Benihana Christmas," pulls off the rare feat of being an hour-long episode of a sitcom that justifies the extra running time. (NBC has had good luck with that lately; last week's hour-long My Name Is Earl was pretty solid too.)

Directed by Harold Ramis, the episode finds Michael in the dumps, despite the gift from corporate of a sweet DM bathrobe. To say why, exactly, he's so down would be to spoil things a little, but it involves his girlfriend Carol (Steve Carell's real-life wife, Nancy Walls), Photoshop and the phrase "all-inclusive."

Seeing an opportunity to make good with his boss, Andy (Ed Helms) offers to take Michael out to lunch at Benihana, and since Michael doesn't roll without his "entourage," Jim (John Krasinski) and Dwight (Rainn Wilson) come along too. And yes, Benihana gets a pretty long plug in the show -- but it's not exactly the most flattering of portrayals. Somehow The Office has managed to be far less grating in its product placement than a lot of other shows, maybe because its writers are willing to poke fun at things while plugging them. Benihana operators nationwide can probably expect a spike in orders of "Nog-a-sake" -- which is exactly what you think it is -- this weekend.

Back at Dunder Mifflin, meanwhile, Angela (Angela Kinsey) is in full authoritarian mode as the Party Planning Committee finalizes the office Christmas party. A rebuffed Karen (Rashida Jones) and Pam (Jenna Fischer) respond by creating the Committee for Planning Parties, and oh yeah -- it's on. The dueling celebrations pretty much represent what the typical office party turns out to be, and what most of us would prefer, at least to some extent. Plus, the thawing of relations between Pam and Karen allows for several patented Jim Halpert reaction shots.

All this, and a healthy dollop of possible romantic intrigue as well, which you'd all kill me for spoiling, so I won't.

But do share your thoughts after you see the episode. You shouldn't lack for things to talk about.

Kevin was awesome this episode once again.

I'm a little disappointed that, although it was obviously going to happen, Jim is going to break Karen's heart.

You and me both. I was for the entire show. From Michael's "taste" of James Blunt to him "marking" his "girlfriend", this was a great episode.

Yeah, they looked different to me, too.

Which is weird, because all. . . . . .waitresses look the same.

the two waitresses were much more attractive than the girls at the office party. I thought I'd missed a piece of dialogue. I'm surprised no one else noticed. If I'm wrong, then it was the herb.

Yeah, I keep trying to compare the 2 in my head and I'm not sure which one I like better.

The waitress at the restaurant was hot. The 2 at the party didn't really do it for me.
