I noticed while watching the live debate episode on DVD, this black rectangle appears the whole time:



Was there something in place of it during the live broadcast? Just seems weird to me.

that is a camera alcove that covers the moderator. it was the same way in the broadcast episode, and actually they had that on the Bush/Kerry debates as well.

I believe its a glass window with a television camera behind it. (You can kind of see it in the center.) Its to get shots of the moderator and crowd.
